Conveyor line

Vacuum systems (Fig. 21-12h) are characterized by material moving in an air stream of pressure less than ambient. The advantages of this type are that all the pumping energy is used to move the product and that material can be sucked into the conveyor line without the need of a rotaiy feeder or similar seal between the storage vessel and the conveyor. Material remains suspended in the air stream until it reaches a receiver. Here, a cyclone separator or filter (Fig. 21-12c) separates the material from the air, the air passing through the separator and into the suction side of the positive-displacement blower or some other power source. 

Spiral-roller units are usually equipped with tapered rollers to compensate for the difference in distance traveled by the inner and outer edges of the container. Tapered rollers are also used on curved sections of ordinary roller-conveyor lines. 

Static dissipative grades covers, guards, access panels, machine windows and doors, static control shields, glove boxes, electronic equipment, process instrumentation, conveyor line covers, clean room windows and doors, partitions and pass through modules...

Most enclosures in the aseptic processing suite are not airtight because of the need for conveyor lines and pass-through openings, so there is a very real opportunity for contamination from the noncontrolled adjacent manufacturing areas and particularly from overhead uncontrolled technical areas.

The capacity of pneumatic-conveying systems depends on several factors besides the characteristics of the solids, such as the diameter of the conveyor line, the length of the line, and the energy of the conveying air. In fact, some materials (e.g., sulfur) build up an electrostatic charge and may cause explosion risks. 

Suppose that the conveyor line enters one workpiece into the tank with a charge of 250 V. Suppose further that it takes 30 s for complete submersion. The current draw will rise during that time (Area A). If the workpiece remains submerged in the bath for 1 min, then the current will diminish during that period (Area B) and then fall rapidly when the workpiece leaves the tank. 

Coating of appliances involves several key steps on conveyorized lines. These are cleaning, metal preparation, priming, baking, topcoating, and baking. 

Cross-belt Product is carried on short belt segments mounted 90° to conveyor line travel. Belt carries off item at dischaige point. Very high sort rates, to over 670 spm. Large number of divert points can be handled. Continuous-loop or train-style operations. 

In present-day high-speed assembly line operations, adhesives are applied robotically. The adhesive bead is apphed quickly and evenly to parts on a conveyor line just prior to being fitted. These operations, especially the need to handle the adhered substrates soon after assembly, demand fast-curing adhesive systems [65]. Two-component adhesives are used to bond metals to plastics in automobiles, to laminate panels in the construction industry, to laminate foams to textiles, to laminate plastic films together, and to bond poly(vinyhdene chloride) films to wood for furniture. A commercial waterborne two-component adhesive is sold by Ashland under the trademark ISOSET. This system is used for exterior sandwich panels by recreational vehicle manufacturers and is composed of a water-emulsiliable isocyanate and a hydroxy-functionalized emulsion latex. 

Bottles emerging from the washer onto the conveyors are monitored for carry-over of caustic. They are also inspected for solids present by automatic scanning of the bottles from beneath as the bottles are caused to spin. In order that interruptions in the working of individual items of plant may be compensated without stopping all operations up-stream, it is common at strategic positions for conveyor lines to lead to accummulation tables in which a supply of bottles may build up ready for resumption of normal operation.
