Countercurrent extraction is favored over crosscurrent extraction at a fixed salt composition for the following reasons (1) less salt is required to obtain the same separation, (2) plutonium loss to the salt is lower, (3) less magnesium metal by-product is generated, and (4) salt feed to the salt recovery line is cut in half.

The tables in this section contain values of the enthalpy and Gibbs energy of formation, entropy, and heat capacity at 298.15 K (25°C). No values are given in these tables for metal alloys or other solid solutions, for fused salts, or for substances of undefined chemical composition. 

By contrast, HLW from LWR fuel reprocessing is stored ia cooled, well-agitated, stainless steel tanks as an acidic nitrate solution having relatively few sohds. Modem PUREX flow sheets minimise the addition of extraneous salts, and as a result the HLW is essentially a fission-product nitrate solution. Dissolver soHds are centrifuged from the feed stream and are stored separately. Thus the HLW has a low risk of compromising tank integrity and has a favorable composition for solidification and disposal (11). 

Chemical inhibitors, when added in small amounts, reduce corrosion by affecting cathodic and/or anodic processes. A wide variety of treatments may be used, including soluble hydroxides, chromates, phosphates, silicates, carbonates, zinc salts, molybdates, nitrates, and magnesium salts. The exact amount of inhibitor to be used, once again, depends on system parameters such as temperature, flow, water chemistry, and metal composition. For these reasons, experts in water treatment acknowledge that treatment should be fine tuned for a given system.

De-icing compositions for the removal of ice or for prevention of its reformation on automobile windshields are prepared from 1 part polyol, 1 part alcohol, and 0.05 part fluorinated surfactant, e.g., ammonium salts of mono- and bisfluoroalkyl phosphates and their complexes with aliphatic quaternary methyl sulfates [287]. 

Elastomeric composition for dynamic application of cross-linked E-plastomers has been made with filer-reinforced systems which contain a metal salt (typically zinc) of an alpha, beta unsaturated acid. These additives improve the tensile and tear strength of the elastomer and are cured with a peroxide cure system. These cross-linked articles are suitable for dynamic loading applications such as belting, including power transmission and flat belting.

The combination of a positive charge and reducibility of tetrazolium salts finds use as anticorrosion agents for metals.634,635 The y are components of an oxidant/etchant bath composition for silicon dioxide corrosion-resistant surfaces.636 They are also used as antistatic agents in polyamide... 

The lead salt is used as a minor component in compositions for low-power electric detonators. 

The electrodeposited Bi2Sr2CaiCu2Ox (BSCCO) precursor films were obtained by co-electrodeposition of the constituent metals using nitrate salts dissolved in DMSO solvent. The electrodeposition was performed in a closed-cell configuration at room temperature ( 24°C). The cation ratios of the electrodeposition bath were adjusted systematically to obtain BSCCO precursor compositions. A typical electrolyte-bath composition for the BSCCO films consisted of 2.0-g Bi(N03)3-5H20,1.0-g Sr(N03)2, 0.6-g Ca(N03)2-4H20, and 0.9-g Cu(N03)2-6H20 dissolved in 400 mL of DMSO solvent. The substrates were single-crystal LAO coated with 300 A of Ag. 

While the mole fraction is a natural measure of composition for solutions of metallic elements or alloys, the mole fraction of each molecule is chosen as the measure of composition in the case of solid or liquid mixtures of molecules.1 In ionic solutions cations and anions are not randomly mixed but occupy different sub-lattices. The mole fractions of the atoms are thus an inconvenient measure of composition for ionic substances. Since cations are mixed with cations and anions are mixed with anions, it is convenient for such materials to define composition in terms of ionic fractions rather than mole fractions.
