Salt body extraction

To obtain the Salt, the extracted plant material is dried and then incinerated to an ash. This purges the accumulated impurities and structural components, which protected the plant in its growing environment. They have served their purpose but are no longer necessary. The light gray to white ash we obtain is dissolved in water, filtered and the liquid is then evaporated leaving a purified white crystalline salt. This represents the Alchemical Salt, the true body of the plant. With the separation and purification of our three essentials complete, we move on to the final step of the Spagyric process, that of cohobation. [Pg.27]

Collagen is the most abundant and ubiquitous structural protein in the body, and it may be readily purified from both animal and human tissues with an enzyme treatment and salt/acid extraction (Li 1995). It was known for some time that even after the corticoids had been separated from crude extracts of the adrenal cortex, the remaining material, the so-called "amorphous fraction" still possessed considerable mineralocorticoid activity. Aldosterone (250), one of the last steroids to be isolated from this fraction, proved to be the active principle. The driving force of the transport of salts, proteins, etc., through the cell membrane from the nuclens to the body fluids, and vice versa, is a complicated biochemical process. As far as is known, this field has not been explored by traditional solution chemists, although a detailed analysis of these transfer processes indicates many similarities with solvent extraction processes (equilibrium as well as kinetics). It is possible that studies of such simpler model systems could contribute to the understanding of the more complicated biochemical processes. [Pg.30]

Salt was one of Paracelsus tria prima. Like the other principles and the four elements of the alchemists, salt as principle took its qualities as well as its name from the material bodies with the same properties. In a fire analysis, salt was to be found in the non-volatile residue and extracted from the non-soluble earth by water. This real salt demonstrated the more or less universal presence of the salt principle in all such bodies. The presence of SALT as principle accounted for the body s solidity and resistance to fire. In its material manifestation, it was recognized by its solubility and its saline taste. [Pg.76]

The salts of the series are bright red crystalline bodies. They are soluble in water, neutral in reaction, and dilute mineral acids do not transform them into aquo-salts. The least soluble member of the series is the sulphate [(NH3)4Co (OH)2 Co(NH3)4](S04)a.2H30, which is prepared by heating hydroxo-aquo-tetrammino-cobaltic sulphate at 100° C. till it is constant in weight. The mass is extracted with water and the sparingly soluble sulphate collected and dried. The crude product so obtained is converted into the chloride and an aqueous solution of this then treated with a solution of sodium sulphate, when a crystalline precipitate of the diol-sulphate is obtained. It is collected, washed with water, alcohol, and finally with ether. It forms small red needle-shaped crystals which contain two molecules of water of hydration. [Pg.174]
