Salt principles

Much research work has been done and continues to be done on the development of new dyes for this outlet. For instance, Avecia have a range of yellow magenta and cyan dyes, based on the ammonium salt principle above, which do show improved wet fastness properties. An alternative approach adopted by workers at Ilford, based on their experience in colour photography, involves the molecular tailoring and formulation of dyes which aggregate and hence have light fasmess properties nearer to pigments (Archiva Inks). [Pg.146]

This process, incorporating both the Salt principle and the Earth principle, illustrates the implicit concept of neutral salt that becomes increasingly explicit through the early decades of the eighteenth century when it becomes the most important concept in the materialization of chemical composition. [Pg.61]

Salt was one of Paracelsus tria prima. Like the other principles and the four elements of the alchemists, salt as principle took its qualities as well as its name from the material bodies with the same properties. In a fire analysis, salt was to be found in the non-volatile residue and extracted from the non-soluble earth by water. This real salt demonstrated the more or less universal presence of the salt principle in all such bodies. The presence of SALT as principle accounted for the body s solidity and resistance to fire. In its material manifestation, it was recognized by its solubility and its saline taste. [Pg.76]

We know only too well, that in physics the first principles are what we know the least about. It is not possible yet to give ourselves any clear ideas of these simple bodies which it is wished to make the elements of other bodies the earth principle, the sulphur principle, the salt principle, etc. It is not even certain that we can succeed in knowing them, at least by the method of experience, the only one yet in Physics on which one can rely. ... [Pg.186]

Take the extracted plant residue and place it into a fire-resistant dish outside. Touch a match to the herb and let it bum down to an ash. Grind the ash very fine and return it to the dish. Then place it over a gas burner or in the oven under broil to make it as light gray to white as possible. This ash contains the Salt principle of the plant. [Pg.28]

The second article of Homberg s first Essai dealt with salts—essential salts, fossil salts, and a variety of spirits produced in the distillation process. Homberg regarded essential and fossil salts as mixts because they were easily reduced to other simpler substances. The spirits not yet analyzed into simpler substances had to be considered as salt principles. In this definition within the domain of accomplished analysis, salt principle was a matter soluble in water and one that does not change by fire. Following Fernery s and Charas s classification, Homberg adopted three kinds of salt principles—acid salts, volatile alkali (or urinous) salts and fixed alkali salts ... [Pg.86]

The relationship between salt principles and mixt salts was not yet clear, although Nicolas Fernery had made a significant contribution to this end with his theory of universal salt. Fernery conjectured that the acid salt traveling through the earth formed different fossil salts by... [Pg.86]

Fontenelle states in the Histoire (1703, 48) that Homberg identified this oil as the true inflammable or sulphurous part of sulphur, or the sulphur principle. However, Homberg states in the Memoires (1703, 38) that the sulphur principle as well as the salt principle have not yet become sensible and are encased in some other matter. [Pg.481]

Salt Principle Dry contained in Fire and Earthy engenders a principle of dry, cohesive, coagulating nature, called Salt. Tt is the principle of the unification o Male and Female as well as the result of their union. From it are born/o and weighty and the fundamental color yellow. Tn Man, it corresponds to Body,... [Pg.20]

It results from the absorption of a certain quantity of the Salt Principle by a determined quantity of the Sulfur Principle or, even more easily, by the absorption of a proportional quantity of common Silver by a determined quantity of xhe Sulfur Principle. It is nor necessary for this Silver to have previously been subjected to exaltation sublimation or volatilization) or transfusion. In a word, it does not have to have been recast or alloyed with itself. Tt must be virgin. [Pg.21]

In effect, by the copu I at ion of the Mercury Principle and the Su ur Principle the Adept obtains Philosophical Silver or Mercury of the Wise as by the copu lation of the Sulfur Principle and the Salt Principle they obtain Philosophical Golck or Sulfur of the Wise ... [Pg.25]

Marrying a man and a woman, or a king and queen, it symbohzes the Salt Principle. [Pg.15]

Envy corresponds to the Salt Principle, and opposed to Charity. [Pg.45]

If Understanding is total Knowledge, Wisdom is the use of which it is made. It is in some way the superior aspect, being the result of the action of Faith and Charity, of the Mercury Principle and the Salt Principle. [Pg.64]
