Rubber sterilization

Oxirane is used as a fumigant for grain and a sterilant e.g. for space vehicles bound for putative abodes of life), but mainly for the manufacture of 1,2-ethanediol ( ethylene glycol ), emulsifiers, plastics and resins (below), plasticizers, synthetic rubber and synthetic fibers. Methyloxirane is used mainly to make detergents, hydraulic fiuids and lubricants.

Muratic acid is powerful. Thick gloves were worn along with eye protection. Using a stainless steel teaspoon, about 1-5ml (1 teaspoon) of muratic acid was poured into a pickle jar that contained roughly 3/4 filtered water (15 ounces or about 500ml.) The pickle jar was previously washed twice in a dishwasher in an attempt to ensure sterility. Under the lid of the pickle jar the manufacturer had painted on a thin ring of some type of latex or rubber to help seal the jar. The mixture of water and acid do not seem to affect the ring (it doesn t dissolve or melt the latex in any way) so the jar and its lid were used.

Dismantle the aerators. Place all the glass tubes, rubber tubes, stoppers and cotton in a paper bag, seal tight with wire staples and sterilize in an autoclave.

In unsensitized individuals it acts as a mild skin irritant. 

The stoppers are sterilized in a validated component sterilizer and unloaded into the sterile storage area (level II, controlled access class 100) until needed for production. Supplier (provide name) ships rubber stoppers to ABC Pharmaceutical Industries in auto-clavable bags. 

Rubber stoppers were sterilized per manufacturing direction and approved cycle. 

The dye ingress challenge test is performed at the end of expiry to show container-closure integrity over the production shelf life. Dye ingress testing is performed on vials having rubber stoppers exposed to the maximum exposure time and temperature during sterilization cycle.

The cycle was mn per the previously mentioned parameters and plant SOP for sterilization of rubber stoppers. Minimum Fq value is obtained AAAA during three heat penetration studies and a six-log reduction was achieved. All results are found in compliance and within the acceptance criteria and meeting the requirements. On the basis of satisfactory revalidation results/data, the cycle is considered revalidated.
