One type of computer simulation which Beeler did not include (it was only just beginning when he wrote in 1970) was finite-element simulation of fabrication and other production processes, such as for instance rolling of metals. This involves exclusively continuum aspects particles , or atoms, do not play a part. 

Has FDA approval under Section 178.3910 to be used in surface lubricants for rolling of metallic foil or sheet stock provided that total residual lubricant remaining on the metallic article in the form in which it contacts food does not exceed 0.015 milligram per square inch of metallic food-contact surface. 

Coll Coating. Coil coating is one of the most efficient methods of applying primers, topcoats, graphics, and laminates to colls or rolls of metals. The prefinished metal, which can be shaped and formed, enables the customer to eliminate costly in-house paint lines, energy-consuming curing ovens, and expensive pollution-control equipment.

M., used in operations such as cutting, grinding, drawing and rolling of metals, are coolants and - lubricants simultaneously. 

Skiving is a variant in which the base metal surface oxides are mechanically removed foUowed immediately by pressure rolling of a precious metal or alloy strip. This is commonly used for inlays for electrical contacts and for jewelry fabrication. The common inlay materials include gold, silver, copper, brass, and solder. No heat is needed, and the coating is appHed only to designated areas so there is Htde waste (3,50). 

Aluminum alloys are commercially available in a wide variety of cast forms and in wrought mill products produced by rolling, extmsion, drawing, or forging. The mill products may be further shaped by a variety of metal working and forming processes and assembled by conventional joining procedures into more complex components and stmctures. 

Laps. Laps are folds of metal that have been rolled into the metal surface but are not fused to the metal. 

Aqueous solutions of acids as used in metal cleaning processes such as pickling for the removal of rust or rolling scale during the production and fabrication of metals, or in the post-service cleaning of metal surfaces. 

The term plastic is not a definitive one. Metals, for instance, are also permanently deformable and are therefore plastic. How else could roll aluminum be made into foil for kitchen use, or tungsten wire be drawn into a filament for an incandescent, light bulb, or a 100 ton ingot of steel be forged into a rotor for a generator. Likewise the different glasses, which contain compounds of metals and nonmetals, can be permanently shaped at high temperatures. These cousins to polymers and plastics are not considered plastics within the plastic industry or context of this book. 

The metallic catalyst support can be in form of chips, open-mesh and reinforced wire structures, and staggered layers of metal screens or saddles. In one design, screens woven from metallic wires 0.01 to 0.03 in. diam are placed in a deep stack. In another design, metal foils 0.004 in. thick are perforated and expanded to form a screen, which is then rolled into a cylinder. See Fig. 12.
