Roll conveying

RoU-conveying systems move the paper rolls from the winder discharge area via the wrapping machine to the roU up-ending device in the mill s warehouse. Natu-raUy, layouts of the roU-conveying systems differ from mill to miU but the basic components are always the same. These are  [Pg.396]

The screw conveyor is one of the oldest and most versatile conveyor types. It consists of a helicoid flight (helix rolled from flat steel bar) or a sectional flight (individual sections blanked and formed into a helix from flat plate), mounted on a pipe or shaft and turning in a trough. Power to convey must be transmitted through the pipe or shaft and is limited by the allowable size of this member. Screw-conveyor capacities are generally limited to around 4.72 mVmin (10,000 ftvh). [Pg.1913]

The load carried comprises approximately half the mass of the conveyor unit (50 9 kg), and half the mass of the items being conveyed at any one time. The mass of the items being conveyed on half of each conveyor unit fluctuates from 0 to 72 kg, approximately following a Normal distribution. The material specified for the hanger is hot rolled Grade 43C structural steel, which has a minimum yield strength SjVin = 275 MPa for a thickness t < 16 mm (BS 4360, 1990). [Pg.236]

The main problem with a feed controlled condition is that throughput is determined entirely by what the feed end manages to pull in and this is very sensitive to the conditions in the feed area. For this reason it is better to keep the machine running full so that the conveying characteristics of the screw determine output rather than the combined characteristics of screw, feed roll, feed opening and feed strip. The compression designed into a screw should therefore be sufficient to achieve complete filling at the lowest likely head pressure. [Pg.183]

The amorphous PEN resin pellets are first dried at 180 °C and then extruded at 290-300 °C through a die, formed into a sheet, which is then followed by a two-step orientation (forward draw and sideway draw process) just above the glass transition temperature (Tg) (>120°C). After the orientation process, the PEN film is conveyed between rollers at 210-220 °C to induce crystallization. At the end of the orientation and crystallization process, the film is cut and rolled into widths and lengths to suit individual customers [14-16], Two of the process used to produce such films are shown in Figure 10.3. [Pg.341]

The balls are conveyed to the rolls in a slurry from apparatus (6) and pass through a feed tank, and then between the rolls (9). A general view of the rolls is given in... [Pg.637]

Wear by roll formation is where there is progressive tearing of a layer of rubber which forms a roll. The result is a characteristic abrasion pattern of ridges and grooves at right angles to the direction of movement. The term erosive wear can be applied to the action of particles conveyed in a liquid stream and there can also be corrosive wear due to direct chemical attack of the surface. [Pg.228]

In the production of poly(methyl methacrylate) sheets or roll material, the polymerization mold is fabricated as two closed-loop stainless steel conveyer belts, which are stretched in parallel between two rollers. The belts move continuously a gasket is inserted automatically on both edges, forming a chamber into which prepolymers are continuously fed (Fig. 4.10). The polymerization zone has gas or electric heaters. [Pg.127]

The most common form of dry granulation is roller compaction. A roller compaction system consists of a feed system which conveys powder between two counterrotating rolls. The powder is drawn between the rolls where a specified force is applied causing the powder to compact into a briquette or a continuous ribbon. The compacted material can then be milled in-fine or collected and milled off-line in a separate processing step (i.e., screening mill). [Pg.120]

Ultimately, the feed system is not only responsible for conveying powder to the rolls, but also aiding in an initial deaeration of the blend. Weggel7 found that the torque on the feed system screw(s) is directly related to the precompaction pressure. He concluded that by maintaining a constant back pressure, the resulting compact quality can be better controlled. [Pg.122]

The application of flexible sheet material to the surface of mandrels, called roll covering, is used in a variety of industries that include printing, paper, textiles, steel, office machinery, plastic fabricating lines, and many others (Figure 9.4). Their use includes to compress, drive, emboss, convey, protect, dye, suction, treat, pickle, paint, and print. [Pg.379]

Miller noted that the total compaction power requirement is the sum of the power required for the feed screw(s) and the roll drive. Feed screws not only convey the powder material from the compactor storage hopper but they also help deaerate the powder in the process. The deaeration of the powder acts as a mini compactor by precompacting the material just prior to roll compaction. Optimum compaction pressures and feed screw designs vary widely for different powder material properties. Changes in bulk powder density and feed screw speeds will affect the roll gap, the compaction pressure, the throughput, and the quality of the compact. ... [Pg.3168]

Densification is accomplished by a 300 HP California Pellet Mill Model 7162-3. The pellets are formed by extrusion through nominally 3/8 inch diameter radial holes in a cylindrical die. Pressure is exerted on a "pad" of the material to be densified by rolls which have fixed shafts. The pellet die rotates about the pressure rolls. Pellet length is controlled by a "cut-off" knife positioned to clip the pellets as they exit the rotating die. The exiting material stream from the pellet mill is mechanically lifted to a pellet cooler, which discharges to a screen to remove under-size pellet pieces and fines. The fines and pieces are recycled to the pellet mill infeed system. Finished pellets are conveyed by high pressure air system to tank storage. [Pg.195]
