Rohm and Hass

In 1901 Otto Rohm reported on his studies of acrylic polymers for his doctoral dissertation. His interest in these materials, however, did not cease at this stage and eventually in 1927 the Rohm and Hass concern at Darmstadt, Germany commenced limited production of poly(methyl acrylate) under the trade names... [Pg.398]

This successful commercial utilisation of poly(methyl methacrylate) is due in no small measure of the process of producing the monomer from acetone developed by Crawford of ICI which enabled the polymer to be produced at a competitive price. Some details of the process as operated by the Rohm and Hass Company of Philadelphia have been disclosed. ... [Pg.400]

Caterpillars and other moulting insects excrete the hormone a-ecdysone which at moulting time becomes hydroxylated to 20-hydroxyecdysone (20-E), which in turn triggers the moulting process enabling the insect to shed its exoskeleton and resume feeding. Rohm and Hass have developed a novel insecticide, tebufenozide (Formula 9.5) which mimics 20-E, binding to the same site. The consequence of this is that the insect stops... [Pg.287]

Theses polymers are made from acrylic acid, its homologues and their derivatives. Glass like resins were made from esters of aerylic acid in 1877 by Fitting and Peter by Kahlbaum. In 1928, Rohm and Hass, a German Company started commercial development of methacrylic esters. Limited production started in 1933. The rapidly expanding air-force used this plastic in place of glass in the aeroplanes. Most of the early production of "Plexiglass was used up by air-force planes. In 1936, ICI marketed methyl methacrylate sheets as "Perspex". [Pg.177]

Myristic acid was purchased from Sigma (St Louis, MO) and ethanol (99.85 %) from Prolabo (France). Ultra pure carbon dioxide (99.995 %) was purchased from Airgaz (France). The lipase (E C. 3.1.1.3.) was a commercial enzyme from Mucor miehei kindly supplied by Novo Nordisk (Denmark). This lipase (Lipozyme TM) is immobilized on Duolite A568 (Rohm and Hass). The resin particles have a size comprised between 300 to 600 pm. In order to see if a phenomenon of internal mass transfer occurs during the enzymatic esterification, we sieved the support into different size series. The average granulometry was determined by Coulzer Sizer method (Table 1). [Pg.103]

This herbicide can be manufactured from m-cresol though one or two manufacturers use alternate route without use of m-cresol. BASF, Rohm and Hass and Rhone-Poulenc (now Mobile Chemical Co.) are manufacturing acifluorfen. Global demand is estimated to the tune of 750 tpa. [Pg.132]

Coated magnetite particles have to be wetted in order to disperse them in water. Alkylaryl polyether alcohols with 10-15 moles of ethylene oxide are adsorbed on oleate coated Fe O particles and thus make them wettable. Triton N-101 (Rohm and Hass), which is polyoxyethylenated nonylphenol... [Pg.549]

Rohm and Hass (Shafer et al., 19S7 Huffman, 19S7 Wilson and McRae, 1958). Propanil, N-(3, 4 -dichloropropion)anilide (24) is the most active herbicide in this group. [Pg.563]

Ji et al. (1995) studied the influence of hydrophobic adsorbent (such as activated carbon) into polymeric polyether-block-polyamide (PEBA) membranes for 1,1,1-trichloroethane (TCA) removal from water by PV. It is already known, in fact, that carbonaceous adsorbents can be successfully used for the removal of small amounts of chlorinated organic compounds from water. TCA flux increases with feed concentrations (from 40 to 300 ppm) for PEBA membranes filled with both tested activated carbon WPX (a powdered adsorbent produced by Calgon Carbon Corporation, PA) and carbonaceous adsorbent Amersorb 1500 (Rohm and Hass Co., PA). The separation factor increases for membranes filled with activated carbon in comparison with unfilled membranes (axcAffl20= 1742 and 2720 for pure and PEBA membranes filled with 10 wt% activated carbon, respectively). However, membranes filled with Ambersorb 1500 do not show any improvement in the separation factor (o tca/h20= 1681). [Pg.751]

Rohm and Hass, Kaneka, and Elf Atochem are the leading suppliers of impact modifiers worldwide. Each has a strong position in both the aaylic and MBS-related modifiers. Other major suppliers include Akzo, BASF, Ferro, Morton International, Sakai Chemical, and Witco. [Pg.276]
