Results of optimization

The question might be addressed as to whether the hemispheroidal structures observed here may provide an indication that complete toroids may be formed from graphite. The structures appear to form as a result of optimal graphitisation of two adjacent concentric graphene tubes, when further extension growth is no longer feasible (i.e., as in the case shown in Fig. 2 at b-b where a four-walled tube section must reduce to a two-waUed one.) This suggests that perfect toroids... [Pg.109]

The original method uses the classical weigh powder, dilute volumet-rically scheme. In order to improve the efficiency and at the same time guarantee delivery of results of optimal quality, an extensive review was undertaken. [Pg.175]

In two-metal co-catalyst Pd-Pb-bromide catalytic packages, Pd TON also increases with lead concentration, but decreases with concentration of a second co-catalyst (Figure 2,b). However, we found that addition of a small amount of titanium or cerium is justified because it improves reaction rate and eliminates the induction period characteristic of the lead only package. As a result of optimization, the best performing catalytic packages contain about 100 molar equivalents (vs. Pd) lead, 2-4 molar equivalents of a second co-catalyst (Ti or Ce), and 600 - 800 equivalents of a quaternary bromide. [Pg.191]

Results of Optimization Using Program B-STEPIT Combination. Figure 6 compares o-methylol, p-methylol and methylene ether concentrations observed at various times for the self-condensation of 2,4-dimethylol-o-cresol with calculated results based on CSMP simulation (Program A) and the following rate constants... [Pg.300]

Acryl amide is an important bulk chemical used in coagulators, soil conditioners and stock additives. The chemical synthesis has several drawbacks because the rate of acryl amide formation is lower than the formation of the by-product acrylic acid [54]. Further, the double bonds of the reactants and products cause by-product formations as well as formation of polymerization products. As a result of optimization with methods of molecular engineering, a very high activity of the biocatalyst nitrile hydratase at low temperature is yielded, enabling a successful biotransformation that is superior to the chemical route. Here, the synthesis is carried out at a low temperature of about 5°C, showing a conversion of 100%. [Pg.94]

Another perspective for production simulation is automatic capacity utilization optimization of multi-product systems. As discussed, this task may be very difficult because of the many different variables and boundary conditions. In an environment integrating optimization and simulation, the optimizer systematically varies the important decision variables in an external loop while the simulation model carries out production planning with the specified variables in the internal loop (see Gunther and Yang [3]). The target function, for example total costs or lead times, can be selected as required. The result of optimization is a detailed proposal for the sequence of the placed orders. [Pg.35]

Table 11.2B lists the specifications for a typical exchanger, and Table 11.2C gives the results of optimization for several cases for two standard tube lengths, 8 and 12 ft. The minimum cost occurs for a 12-ft tube length with 64 tubes (case 3). Many commercial codes exist to carry out heat exchanger design. Search the Web for the most recent versions. [Pg.429]

Exposure ofpara-qmnonc diimine and allylsilane to ZnCl2 in dichloromethane leads to a slow bis-annulation reaction to give the pyrroloindole derivative in which the two silyl groups are traits to each other <20020L953>. The results of optimization studies revealed that the amount and nature of the Lewis acid used and the temperature employed play an important role in determining the course of the reaction (Equation 90). [Pg.1174]

The first results of optimization in chromatography were published in 1975 Since then a growing number of optimization experiments in HPLC using the Simplex procedure has been reported (table 9). The examples are mainly reversed-phase separations, in which the composition of the ternary or binary mobile phase composition is optimized. The factors optimized are usually a selection from flow rate, column temperature and length, the eluents constitution (e.g. organic modifier content, buffer concentration and pH), the gradient shape. Seven years after the first applications of Simplex optimization had appeared, the first fully automated optimization of HPLC separations was published by Berridge in 1982. This development coincid-... [Pg.23]

A vast amount of empirical molecular potential energy functions and a series of corresponding programs (molecular mechanics and consistent force field programs) are available (for recent reviews see 203 205)). Unfortunately these energy functions are always the result of optimization on a rather limited group of compounds. No... [Pg.74]

Production plants for supercritical fluid extraction of natural substances have now been in operation for several years. Production costs are significantly influenced by the energy requirement. Energy optimization may improve production economy for existing and future extraction plants. Results of optimization calculations were first published by Eggers 1. These calculations are extended here. [Pg.615]

Before the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in 1996, CMV retinitis occurred at a frequency of approximately 25% in all patients with AIDS. Presently, new cases of CMV retinitis have dropped by approximately 75% to 85% due to improvements in cell-mediated immimity as a result of optimal vital suppression from HAART. [Pg.621]

The case study of Provimi Pet Food, the pet food division of Provimi, one of the world s largest animal feed manufacturing and commercial companies, is presented here in order to show the complexity and specialities of this problem, and the way it is solved. The main motives of why developing a supply chain model was necessary is first described, then the specialities of the supply chain of Provimi Pet Food are detailed with their mathematical formulation. Finally, computation results of optimizing different sizes of the problem using model versions of different complexity levels are presented. [Pg.205]

As a result of optimization, unique Arai-subspaces emerge, but the form of the orbitals spanning the subspaces is arbitrary. The orbitals can be made unique by fixing them as the natural orbitals in each subspace. [Pg.80]

Thus, the result of optimization is a number, namely the value of the optimal concentration of donor or acceptor impurities. Naturally, the theory cannot indicate the exact figure of doping impurity concentration. Therefore the optimal concentration is experimentally determined by way of creating materials with different impurity concentrations and determination of their Z. [Pg.501]
