Integration optimal

Another perspective for production simulation is automatic capacity utilization optimization of multi-product systems. As discussed, this task may be very difficult because of the many different variables and boundary conditions. In an environment integrating optimization and simulation, the optimizer systematically varies the important decision variables in an external loop while the simulation model carries out production planning with the specified variables in the internal loop (see Gunther and Yang [3]). The target function, for example total costs or lead times, can be selected as required. The result of optimization is a detailed proposal for the sequence of the placed orders. [Pg.35]

Software implementation. The complexity of the integrated optimization problem is exacerbated when implementation issues are considered. A unifying framework is needed that will allow both software and humans involved with various levels of the Process Operations Hierarchy to seamlessly communicate with one another in a decisionmaking process over time. [Pg.196]

By integrating optimized acid sites with superior mass transport characteristics and a pore architecture that reduces pore-mouth plugging, a catalyst with enhanced performance can be created. Figure 5 demonstrates that both the catalyst selectivity and lifetime are significantly improved. As shown in figure 6, which compares the performance of Exelus solid-acid catalyst with other commercially available systems, the new catalyst system is easily able to achieve a step-change in performance over other solid-acid catalysts. [Pg.90]

Fuel cycle concept of the THORIMS-NES is illustrated by Fig. XXX-4. As it is shown in the figure, the spent fuel-salt after finishing its lifetime in the FUJI reactors will be sent back to regional centres distributed in the world and safeguarded. The salt would be processed in a batch mode to remove U (by fluorination) and some fission products, for which the contents will be decided from the integral optimization including such criteria as material compatibility, neutron economy, cost minimization, etc. [Pg.829]

For large civil engineering structures it is necessary to install a sufficient number of dampers to achieve a reduction of the stmctural response due to earthquake and the performance of these dampers depends on their location in the structures. The selection of few locations out of a large number of locations for the placement of passive dampers is typically a nonlinear constrained optimization problem. This problem can be solved either by simple heuristic search approaches or through integral optimization. The first ones are simple and they yield a solution which may be close to the optimal solution, but computationally expensive, instead the second ones are fast but solution is complex. [Pg.2]

In the present paper we modeled a polymer batch process including safety constraints and runaway conditions, with the aim to simulate and optimize the model. It was shown which choices were made in the modeling and how to make the models suitable for scenario-integrated optimization. An optimization problem was formulated, but no... [Pg.976]
