Restoring principle

To date, the prior knowledge built into deconvolution algorithms has mainly been deterministic in nature, such as by use of positivity or boundedness. But a unified approach to estimating spectra should accommodate all possible physical and statistical prior knowledge about formation of the spectra. In particular, the approach should be physical, based on the Bose-Einstein nature of photons. Such an approach will be presented here. One general restoring principle will be derived, from which particular estimators... [Pg.229]

The failure rates and times-to-restore developed used a variety of data sources and data construction methodologies and are presented in Section 2. The principal methodology used is a kind of failure mode analysis for each component several principle modes of failure are analyed by characteristics including frequency of occurence, repair time, start-up time, and shut-down time. From these an average failure rate is developed and expressed as failures per million hours and mean time between failure(MTBF). [Pg.108]

Electronic ratio controller. In this type of controller, a proportion of both gas and air is diverted through a bypass in which a thermistor sensor measures the flow. The air and gas flows can be compared and the ratio calculated and displayed. A ratio control valve in the air or gas supply, depending on whether the mode of operation is gas- or air-led, will automatically restore a deviation from the pre-set ratio. The electronic controller maintains ratio over a 19 1 turndown. The principle of operation is based on mass flow, so that it can be used with preheated air in recuperative systems. [Pg.278]

It should be noted that it is permissible to take a function only of a dimensionless quantity. It is easy to appreciate this argument when account is taken of the fact that any function may be expanded as a power series, each term of which must have the same dimensions, and the requirement of dimensional consistency can be met only if these terms and the function are dimensionless. Where this principle appears to have been invalidated, it is generally because the equation includes a further term, such as an integration constant, which will restore the requirements of dimensional consistency. For f x dx... [Pg.15]

In the field of tissue engineering, the principles of engineering and life sciences are applied for the development of functional substitutes for damaged tissue. To this end, biomaterials have been used to replace, restore, or enhance organ function. Therefore the material needs to be able to match the characteristics of the tissue it is replacing, such as shape, physical properties, and support in cellular processes [106]. [Pg.90]

The requirement I > 2 can be understood from the symmetry considerations. The case of no restoring force, 1=1, corresponds to a domain translation. Within our picture, this mode corresponds to the tunneling transition itself. The translation of the defects center of mass violates momentum conservation and thus must be accompanied by absorbing a phonon. Such resonant processes couple linearly to the lattice strain and contribute the most to the phonon absorption at the low temperatures, dominated by one-phonon processes. On the other hand, I = 0 corresponds to a uniform dilation of the shell. This mode is formally related to the domain growth at T>Tg and is described by the theory in Xia and Wolynes [ 1 ]. It is thus possible, in principle, to interpret our formalism as a multipole expansion of the interaction of the domain with the rest of the sample. Harmonics with I > 2 correspond to pure shape modulations of the membrane. [Pg.149]

This workbook is a guided tour through the steps of the Emerald Formula. There are alchemical mandalas and symbolic drawings actually used by the alchemists to illustrate the principles of the Emerald Tablet, as well as interpretations and guided meditations to accompany them. Most engravings have never before been published to a wide audience and date back over five hundred years others have been restored with symbolic colors to convey their archetypal content. [By D.W. When a colour layer of an artwork is analysed, a drop (5 10 pi) of this solution is localised on the sample surface. This method of enzymatic digestion can be, in principle, applied to all types of samples that occur in restoration practice fragments, cross-sections, microtome slices, etc. The samples are digested in closed microtubes to prevent evaporation of the solution. In the case of the cross-sections and microtome slices, it is essential to ensure the wetness of sample surface for the whole time of digestion. [Pg.174]
