Respondent profile

Following initiation of treatment, serum probes can be obtained to determine whether the tumor is responding to therapy, as well as determining whether the tumor has developed resistance mechanisms that may require modification of therapy, that is so-called responder profiling. Protein biomarkers such as CEA, CA 15-3, AFP, and PSA are already in clinical use for therapy monitoring, and it is reasonable that these biomarkers will be complemented by others in the future. [Pg.132]

The respondents profile confirms the hypothesis that the potential labeled organic fresh fish buyers could be, at first, both organic food and intensive marine fresh fish consumers. Caution in extending the survey results to all Italian consumers has also been confirmed. [Pg.134]

Fig. 2.18. Polymeric solids are observed to respond to shock compression in a viscoelastic behavior. The figure shows a transmitted wave profile in UVIIA PMMA as measured with an imbedded VISAR mirror. Note that the early shock is followed by a rapid relaxation to a higher velocity, and a slow relaxation to higher velocities, (after Schuler and Nunziato [74S01]). Fig. 2.18. The principal effect of the presence of a smooth wall, compared to a free surface, is the occurrence of a maximum in the density near the interface due to packing effects. The height of the first maximum in the density profile and the existence of additional maxima depend on the strength of the surface-water interactions. The thermodynamic state of the liquid in a slit pore, which has usually not been controlled in the simulations, also plays a role. If the two surfaces are too close to each other, the liquid responds by producing pronounced density oscillations. [Pg.356]

When a viscoelastic material is subjected to a constant strain, the stress initially induced within it decays in a time-dependent manner. This behavior is called stress relaxation. The viscoelastic stress relaxation behavior is typical of many TPs. The material specimen is a system to which a strain-versus-time profile is applied as input and from which a stress-versus-time profile is obtained as an output. Initially the material is subjected to a constant strain that is maintained for a long period of time. An immediate initial stress gradually approaches zero as time passes. The material responds with an immediate initial stress that decreases with time. When the applied strain is removed, the material responds with an immediate decrease in stress that may result in a change from tensile to compressive stress. The residual stress then gradually approaches zero. [Pg.64]

Over 4 decades, between 1960 and 2000, the development of new antibiotics used well characterized basic structures for partial synthetic modifications, primarily to overcome resistance by increasing the pharmacodynamic properties and, secondarily, to improve the pharmacokinetic profile of older compounds. However, bacteria rapidly responded by acquiring additional genetic alterations either as mutations or by accumulating resistance genes as part of mobile genetic elements ( integrons) on transferable resistance plasmids. [Pg.103]

All the references to burn-out have thus far been concerned with uniformly heated channels, apart from some of the rod bundles where the heat flux varies from one rod to another, but which respond to analysis in terms of the average heat flux. In a nuclear-reactor situation, however, the heat flux varies along the length of a channel, and to find what effect this may have, some burn-out experiments on round tubes and annuli have been done using, for example, symmetrical or skewed-cosine axial heat-flux profiles. Tests with axial non-uniform heating in a rod bundle have not yet been reported. [Pg.274]

Although MIL-47, and especially MIL-53(A1), had been found on many occasions to dynamically respond to adsorption of particular compounds, referred to as breathing [35] in the literature, in these liquid phase conditions, only minor changes of the lattice parameters have been observed. A study of xylene separations in vapor phase on MIL-5 3(A1) shows that breathing profoundly influences the shape of the obtained breakthrough profiles as a function of adsorbate concentration [97]. [Pg.87]

If the formation and breakdown steps of a mechanism involving a tetrahedral intermediate respond differently to changes in pH or catalyst concentration, then one can find evidence from plots of rate versus pH or rate versus catalyst concentration for a change in rate determining step and thus for a multistep mechanism. An example would be the maximum seen in the pH rate profile for the formation of an imine from a weakly basic amine (such as hydroxylamine). On the alkaline side of the maximum, the rate determining step is the acid-catalyzed dehydration of the preformed carbinolamine on the acid side of the maximum, the rate determining step is the uncatalyzed addition of the amine to form the carbinolamine. The rate decreases on the acid side of the maximum because more and more of the amine is protonated and unable to react. [Pg.7]

Develop a plan for monitoring therapeutic outcomes, focusing on the individual symptom profile and level of function of each patient. Include a plan for dosage adjustments or alternate therapy if the patient fails to respond adequately. Include serum drug concentration monitoring as appropriate. [Pg.603]

Fortunately these unforeseen variables did not affect the most abundant peaks, nor the correct identification of the blind-coded bacteria. While differences associated with matrix and instrumental parameters were expected, the authors conducting this experiment did not anticipate the extent and speed with which bacteria could respond, through their protein profiles, to subtle environmental changes. [Pg.131]
