Research facility, joint

Acknowledgment The authors thank the United Kingdom Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) for funding. The work was performed in research facilities provided through an EPSRC/HEFCE Joint Infrastructure Fund award (No. JIF4NESCEQ). [Pg.322]

The pilot plant studies started in 1966 and have continued ever since. Pilot units have been installed at the Tidd Station of American Electric Power, the Cholla Station of Arizona Public Service, the Big Brown Station of Texas Utilities, and Research-Cottrell s Finderne Research facility. Development studies have been supported by EPA, by joint efforts with utilities, and by this company (4, 5, 6). [Pg.128]

Three main radiation source facilities were used for this study CERN-EU high-energy reference field (CERF) facility. Joint Research Centre Dosimetry Division Ooint Research Centre at Ispra-Italy) and the S. Giovanni hospital (Turin, Italy). [Pg.195]

International Space Station A space-based sciendflc research facility constructed in earth orbit at an altitude of 350 km from prefabricated modules and components. It is a joint project involving the space agencies of the United States, Russia, Japan, Canada, and the ten member nations of the European Space Agency, with additional contributions from Brazil and Italy. Assembly of the station began in 1998 and was scheduled to be completed by 2011. It has been crewed continuously since November 2000. [Pg.427]

In December 2005 Celanese contracted to sell its loss-making Topas, cyclo-olefin copolymers (COC) operation to a Daicel (55%)/Polyplastics (45%) joint venture. This COC business has approximately 100 employees at production and research facilities in Oberhausen and Frankfurt as well as in the UK. Following the sale, which involves the transfer of all production faciUties and employees to the new joint venture, the headquarters of the business will remain in Germany. Ironically, Mitsui Chemicals announced plans to increase COC production by 600 tonnes per year, citing forecast rising demand of 20% per year for its own Apel COC product. Earlier, Ticona had announced its intention to withdraw from its Pemeas joint venture which had lost US 12 million in 2003. [Pg.102]

Elements beyond 103 are expected to be 6d elements forming a fourth transition series, and attempts to synthesize them have continued during the past thirty years. All 10 (including, of course, actinium) are now known and are discussed in the section on transactinide elements on p. 1280. The work has required the dedicated commitment of extensive national facilities and has been carried out at the Lawrence-Berkeley Laboratories, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research at Dubna, and the Heavy-Ion Research Centre (GSI) at Darmstadt, Germany. [Pg.1253]

The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Aet (CERCLA) [42 U.S.C. 9601 et seq ], as amended by the Superflind Amendments and Reauthorization Aet (SARA) [Pub. L. 99-499], requires that the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) develop jointly with the US. Enviromnental Protection Agency (EPA), in order of priority, a list of hazardous substances most commonly found at facilities on the CERCLA National Priorities List (NPL) prepare toxicological profiles for each substance included on the priority list of hazardous substances and assure the initiation of a research program to fill identified data needs associated with the substances. [Pg.247]

Due to the complexity and cost of the technique no water laboratory in the UK has its own facilities for carrying out neutron activation analysis. Instead, samples are sent to one of the organizations that possess the facilities, e.g. the Atomic Energy Research Establishment at Harwell or the Joint Manchester-Liverpool University Reactor located at Risley. [Pg.90]

Prior to construction of the Ft. Eustis pest control facility, TRADOC requested the U.S. Army Medical Bioengineering Research and Development Laboratory (USAMBRDL) to investigate the feasibility of using an activated carbon filtration/absorption system to treat the pesticide-laden wastewater. The final system design was to 1) not be manpower intensive 2) not require extensive analytical monitoring, and 3) be compatible with both the types and quantities of pesticide wastes produced by a typical pest control facilty. The initial research was funded jointly by EPA and TRADOC. [Pg.127]
