So far as the author is aware, there are two commercial software packages currently available for the prediction of soil sorption coefficients these are PCKOCWIN from Syracuse Research Corporation, freely downloadable from the EPA website, and Absolv, developed by Sirius Analytical Ltd., Forest Row, Surrey, U.K. (www.sirius-analytical.com), and based on the Abraham LSER descriptors. Their predictions for a 100-chemical test set are given in Table 16.2 and Table 16.3, and are commented on in the next section. [Pg.372]

These specific, and other broader, concerns in corporate compliance with TSCA s requirements were discussed by Diamond Shamrock Corporation s D. Harlow. He described how corporate structures and procedures, including those for research and development, for companies of all sizes, have been impacted by TSCA. These impacts are generally positive in that they reflect greatly increased awareness, resources and responsiveness to questions of chemicals effects on health and environment. These benefits are seen to be in balance with their costs, expressed in the increased costs of products and services. [Pg.228]

In the 12/7/10 online issue of ISHN, Resnicld strongly suggested that safety practitioners become aware of and begin to incorporate scientifically valid applied research findings into the way they practice their profession. When applied scientific research findings are used, especially those that are replicated by independent research studies, they can directly relate to an increased level of safety performance. Erickson s original research of the effect on corporate culture on injury rates provides such an example. ... [Pg.56]

American textile manufacturers were clearly aware of the impact of war on both the supply of unprocessed fibres and the type of textiles required. Wickliffe Rose of the American Viscose Corporation made a speech to the 1944 American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) convention in which he identified three aspects of this process substitution of man-made for natural fibres, modification of industrial practice as a result of shortages of natural fibres and intense research into new fibres to satisfy military requirements, which had the effect of restricting supplies available for the civilian market. What was available was of poorer qualify. A 1944 survey undertaken by the Bureau of Human Nutrition and Home Economics showed how essential fabrics were downgraded during the war . ... [Pg.403]
