One of the most interesting questions that arise in this research is to check our conjecture that an infinity of ( a, b), 3)-spheres bRj exists if and only if an ( a, , 3)-torus bRj exists. [Pg.186]

Besides stmctural variety, chemical diversity has also increased. Pure silicon fonns of zeolite ZSM-5 and ZSM-11, designated silicalite-l [19] and silicahte-2 [20], have been synthesised. A number of other pure silicon analogues of zeolites, called porosils, are known [21]. Various chemical elements other than silicon or aluminium have been incoriDorated into zeolite lattice stmctures [22, 23]. In Chapter 8, Stavola and Pearton discuss the local vibrational modes of complexes in Si that contain hydrogen or deuterium. They also show how one can use applied stress and polarized light to determine the symmetry of the defects. In the case of the B-H complex, the bond-center location of H is confirmed by vibrational and other measurements, although there are some remaining questions on the stress dependence of the Raman spectrum. The motion of H in different acceptor-H complexes is discussed for the Be-H complex, the H can tunnel between bond-center sites, while for B-H the H must overcome a 0.2 eV barrier to move between equivalent sites about the B. In the case of the H-donor complexes, instead of bonding directly to the donor, H is in the antibonding site beyond the Si atom nearest to the donor. The main experimental evidence for this is that nearly the same vibrational frequency is obtained for the different donor atoms. There is also a discussion of the vibrational modes of H tied to crystal defects such as those introduced by implantation. The relationship of the experimental results to recent theoretical studies is discussed throughout. [Pg.22]

Before fluorination, the dielectric constant ofpoly(bisbenzocyclobutene) was 2.8, and this value was reduced to 2.1 after plasma treatment. No data were reported in the paper on characterization of structure or properties, except for the dielectric constant of the modified poly(bisbenzocyclobutene). The authors did report that the thermal stability offluorinatedpoly(vinylidenefluoride) was inferior to the original poly(vinylidenefluoride) when treated in a similar way. One of the probable reasons for the low thermal stability is that the NF3 plasma degraded the polymer. According to their results, the thickness of fluorinated poly(bisbenzo-cyclobutene) was reduced by 30%. The same phenomenon was observed for other hydrocarbon polymers subjected to the NF3 plasma process. A remaining question is whether plasma treatment can modify more than a thin surface layer of the cured polymer Additionally, one of the side products generated was hydrogen fluoride, which is a serious drawback to this approach. [Pg.293]
