Recyclable Materials Science Technology

The most comprehensive federal legislation proposed to date was reintroduced this month by Rep. George J. Hochbrueckner (D.-N.Y.). The bill, H.R. 500, entitled the "Recyclable Materials Science Technology Development Act," has been described as the first measure introduced to authorize a comprehensive consumer product recycling program on a national level.

Together with factors that impact the recyclability of materials, they suggest the type and scope of effort needed to make progress toward the goal of CGC I. Surface materials science is closely linked to corrosion behavior and should also be a focus of technologies in CGC I. If two or more types of different materials are mixed up and treated in defined conditions (varying with temperature, pressure, and other chemical and physical processes), a composite material with a clear interfacial boundary will be obtained. If a major part of the produced composite consists of polymer, then it is called a polymeric composite. A polymeric composite material is one of the most developed areas of modern science and technology. In addition to composite materials, modern science and technology use nano-sized materials. Such composites are called nanocomposites, whose main attraction is related to very high operation properties, such as flexibility, elasticity, recycling, hardness, resistance to abrasion, and optical and electrical transmission [9]. 

As a result of die increasing amount of raw materials that is used to manufacture foamed products and their environmental impact in waste streams the awareness to reduce the use of these materials and to stimulate re-use and recycling is growing. However, these processes are limited by the complexity of the waste streams and high costs involved in re-use and recycling of foams.
