Rectangular Plates

Plate-and-Frame Filter Presses. In the conventional plate-and-frame press (Fig. 14), a sequence of perforated square, or rectangular, plates alternating with hoUow frames is mounted on suitable supports and pressed together with hydrauHc or screw-driven rams. The plates are covered with a filter cloth which also forms the sealing gasket. The slurry is pumped iato the frames and the filtrate is drained from the plates. [Pg.398]

Impingement baffles are generally made of rectangular plate, although circular plates are more desirable. Rods and other devices are sometimes used to protect the tubes from impingement. In order to maintain a maximum tube count the impingement plate is often placed in a conical nozzle opening or in a dome cap above the shell. [Pg.1073]

B. HAUCI4, separates as an oil, but solidifies on standing and may be recrystallised from water containing hydrochloric acid. The crystals melt at 137-9° or below 100° when heated under water. This salt and the picrate, rectangular plates, m.p. 175-6°, are well adapted for the identification of the alkaloid. The methobromide, m.p. 223-5°, and the inethonitrate, m.p. 166-8°, are now both used in medicine. [Pg.71]

In like manner lodal (VI), on condensation with 6-nitro-3 4-methylene-dioxyphthalide (IV) yields nitro-a -adlumine (I R = NOj . O. CHa. O. at C and C replaced by 20Me), which crystallises from chloroform-methyl alcohol in orange, rectangular plates, m.p. 180-1° dec.), and on reduction yields the corresponding amino-derivative, bundles of minute needles, m.p. 218-9°. [Pg.211]

Ergotamine crystallises from a variety of solvents but always with the solvent, e.g., from aqueous acetone, which is recommended as a medium, it separates in rectangular plates, B. 2H2O. 2C3HgO, decomposes at 180° and has, for solvent free base, [a] ° — 160° and — 192° (c = 1 CHCl3)or 12-7°and [a] 4g°—8-6°(c= 1 pyridine). Robinson 1 has pointed out that the formation of dihydrostrychninonic acid, C2iH2206N2, rectangular plates, m.p. 315°, [a] ° -)- 4-3°, as a byproduct in the oxidation of strychnine by permanganate, can be explained if certain assumptions are made, e.g., the change represented thus —... [Pg.571]

Napelline, C22H33O3N. Isolated by Freudenberg and Rogers 1 (1937), from residual bases of A. Napellus, forms rectangular plates and yields a crystalline hydrobromide, B. HBr, m.p. 229° (dec.), — 42-7° (H2O) ... [Pg.678]

A simply supported rectangular plate is used consistently in all sections to illustrate the kinds of results that can be obtained, i.e., the influence of the various stiffnesses on laminated plate behavior. In addition, only the simplest types of loading will be studied in order to avoid the solution difficulties inherent to complex loadings. Accordingly, in the interest of simplicity, just the bare thread of laminated plate results will be displayed. [Pg.278]

Consider the general class of laminated rectangular plates that are simply supported along edges x = 0, x = a, y = 0, and y = b and subjected to a distributed transverse load, p(x,y). In Figure 5-8. The transverse load can be expanded in a double Fourier sine series ... [Pg.289]

Because exact solutions for skew isotropic plates are readily available, Ashton was able to get some exact solutions for anisotropic rectangular plates by the special identification process outlined in the preceding paragraph. Specifically, values for the center deflection of a uniformly loaded square plate are shown in Table 5-2. There, the exact solution is shown along with the Rayleigh-Ritz solution and the specially orthotropic solution. For the case already discussed where D22/D11 -1, (D.,2-i-2De6)/Di. = 1.5, and D.,g/Di., = D2 Di., =-.5, the exact solution is... [Pg.294]

The acid extracts (after washing with 50 ml ether) were made alkaline with aqueous 5 N sodium hydroxide solution, the liberated base was extracted into ether (4 x 50 ml) and the ether extracts were dried (MgS04). Treatment of the extracts with hydrogen chloride gave the hydrochloride (11 grams, 70%), which was obtained as rectangular plates, MP 164° to 166°C, after several crystallizations from butanone. [Pg.136]

From the various possible geometric shapes of reactant crystallites, discussion here will be restricted to a consideration of reaction proceeding in rectangular plates knd in spheres [28]. A complication in the quantitative treatment of such rate processes is that reaction in those crystallites which were nucleated first may be completed before other particles have been nucleated. Due allowance for this termination of interface advance, resulting from the finite size of reactant fragments accompanied by slow nucleation, is incorporated into the geometric analysis below. [Pg.63]

Double torsion test specimens take the form of rectangular plates with a sharp groove cut down the centre to eliminate crack shape corrections. An initiating notch is cut into one end of each specimen (Hill Wilson, 1988) and the specimen is then tested on two parallel rollers. A load is applied at a constant rate across the slot by two small balls. In essence the test piece is subjected to a four-point bend test and the crack is propagated along the groove. The crack front is found to be curved. [Pg.374]

A few thin, rectangular plates of carbon can be very useful on the glass-working bench. The faces of these plates are of use in flattening the ends of tubing, in blowing flat-bottomed bulbs, and in shaping... [Pg.116]

Duct flows can be converted into efficient mixing flows (i.e., flows with an exponential stretch of material lines with time) by time- modulation or by spatial changes along the duct axis. One example of the spatially periodic class is the partitioned-pipe mixer (PPM). This flow consists of a pipe partitioned with a sequence of orthogonally placed rectangular plates (Fig. 5a). The cross-sectional motion is induced through rotation of the pipe with respect to the assembly of plates, whereas the axial flow is caused by... [Pg.114]

The cross-section of the gel film is a rectangular plate of the dimension of bt. Here b and t represent the width and thickness of the film, respectively. Therefore the moment of inertia of the beam cross-section is given by Eq. 27. [Pg.148]
