Recombination units

The expanded system contains one additional subsystem - a catalytic recombining unit. [Pg.73]

While the multi-lamination micromixers use a parallel approach, the split and recombination units use a linear approach by splitting the flow, recombining it and by rearranging it, almost always with some recirculation flow [60, 63, 65, 66, 84,85]. Designs used to achieve this flow include, but are not limited to, fork-like, ramp-like, cross-like, and curved. Mae et al. reported a two-phase mixer designed to create a water-oil emulsion that could process up to 5 L h (YM-1) and 20 L h (YM-2) [63]. Figure 7.6 shows the YM-1 structure. [Pg.141]

Of the 22 C mutants, isolated as resistant to D-fucose, 18 mapped between C" mutant sites. C8 and C 70 mapped close to C5. Both failed to give any wild-type recombinants with C5, and based on the number of Ara recombinants assayed, it was estimated that C 8 and 070 are, respectively, less than 0.02 and 0.1 recombination unit away from C5. The position of other mutant sites 067, 02, 04, 070) as being within the C gene was verified by deletion mapping [14]. [Pg.274]

The cover gas system includes two compressors and two recombination units that form a circuit for the circulation of cover gas through the calandria relief ducts. Normally, one compressor and both recombination units are operated, with the other compressor held on stand-by. [Pg.154]

Recovery nd Purifica.tion. The production of EH Lilly s human insulin requires 31 principal processing steps of which 27 are associated with product recovery and purification (13). The production process for human insulin, based on a fermentation which yields proinsulin, provides an instmctive case study on the range of unit operations which must be considered in the recovery and purification of a recombinant product from a bacterial fermentation. Whereas the exact sequence has not been pubUshed, the principle steps in the purification scheme are outlined in Figure la. [Pg.43]

Thaumatin (trade name Talin) is a very potent sweetener (ca 2000X, 10% sucrose solution sweetness equivalence). However, its potency is overshadowed by inferior taste quaUties. The onset of sweetness is very slow, and after reaching the maximum sweetness, a very long-lingering sweetness combined with an unpleasant aftertaste follows. Primarily owing to this poor taste quaUty, thaumatin is not considered a practically useflil sweetener. It is, however, used as a flavor enhancer, especially in products such as chewing gum. Thaumatin and thaumatin B-recombinant were affirmed GRAS flavors (EEMA no. 3732 and 3814, respectively). They are not approved as sweeteners in the United States. [Pg.281]
