Recent Highlights

In this section we will describe the general principles that determined the biological applications of polyphosphazenes in different domains, putting an effort into establishing their specific utilization on the basis of structure-property relationships. This argument has been covered by several different review articles in the past [400-406,626] and has been recently highlighted by H. R. Allcock [627] and E. Schacht [407]. 

What tools are used and how far have these projects gone Previous issues of PROBE and many other publications as well, have recently highlighted the potential use of this ultimate weapon of mind control. The role of bismuth(III) salts as Lewis acids has only been studied since the late 1980 s. Pioneering work by Dubac, Wada and others paved the way to wide and general methods using bismuth(III) catalysts. The versatile use of bismuth salts in synthesis has clearly been highlighted by the increasing number of publications in the field. The low toxicity of bismuth salts, associated with low cost, make them attractive and practical catalysts to use. Synergistic effects with other Lewis acids have also been recently highlighted. 

As recently highlighted by Woodward, enantioselective Sf/2 allylic substitution reactions are mechanistically related to conjugate addition reactions . Theoretical studies carried out by Nakamura and coworkers for the conjugate addition and allylic alkylation using Gilman s cuprates revealed profound mechanistic similarities between these two processes . ... 

We last reviewed organic synthesis applications of the Grubbs reaction on April 19,2004. The (relatively) robust nature of the commercially-available catalyst and its commercial availability have spurred the expanding exploration of the scope of this reaction.
