Rather unspecific

It is conceivable that such rather unspecific modulatory signals obtain more specific significance in the communication process. A striking example is that of the leaf-cutter ant Atta cephalotes (24). 

Whereas some species oxidize host terpenes more randomly, producing an array of rather unspecific volatiles with little information, others use highly selective enzyme systems for the production of unique olfactory signals. However, apart from transformations of monoterpene hydrocarbons of host trees, oxygenated monoterpenes may well be biosynthesized de novo by the beetles (see below). 

I and II are postulated as reactive intermediates, adding, rather unspecifically, both the primary elimination product (Me3Si)20 ( oxysilation ) and the reactant ( aminoboration ). Performing the decomposition in an excess of siloxane (Me3Si)20 gives only the oxysilation product. 

Polymers are formed, together with borazines, from iminoboranes RBNR with a-unbranched alkyl groups. By absolute control of the temperature, the stabilization would presumably be directed toward the borazine. Loss of thermal control will cause a loss of kinetic control, so that hot iminoborane molecules will trimerize or polymerize rather unspecifically. 

Flavonoids, as food components or potential drugs, interact with a wide range of proteins by distinct mechanisms weak and rather unspecific binding of tannins to proline-rich or histi-dine-rich random coils leading to protein precipitation, specific enzyme inhibition, and... 

This rather unspecific induction of nectar secretion in cotton was surprising in light of the fact that the induction of volatile emission by this plant had been demonstrated to be specific. Herbivore-damaged plants show a higher rate of volatile emission compared with mechanically damaged plants (McCall et al, 1994), and herbivore feeding induced de novo synthesis of various terpenoids (Pare and Tumlinson, 1997), which resulted in a quantitative as well as a qualitative response to herbivory. The specificity of the plant response is not restricted to the differentiation between mechanical damage and herbivory. The composition of the induced volatile blend also varies between (even closely related) herbivore species (De Moraes etal, 1998). 

Heat effects as such are rather unspecific, especially if the nature of the reactions taking place in the calorimeter is not known. The combination of thermal analysis with chemical analysis (for example with a thermobalance (DTG) or a mass spectrometer which register the rate of advancement of the reaction) enables us to arrive at specific caloric data (i.e., AH/A nt). Absolute values of AH are obtained by calibration only. 

Flavonoids and other polyphenols can interact with lipids and proteins. The interactions with proteins could be both unspecific or specific, meanwhile the interactions with lipids seems to be rather unspecific, based essentially on physical adsorption. This physical adsorption would mostly depend on the hydrophobic/hydrophilic characteristics of the flavonoid molecule, the number of hydroxyl substituents, and the polymerization degree [Erlejman et al., 2004 Verstraeten et al., 2005, 2003, 2004]. 

There is, apparently, hardly any orientation of the molecules when they are adsorbed on charcoal. This is due to the rather unspecific nature... 

In the literature, the use of the term bulky Cp is rather unspecific. Depending on the authors perspective, a monosubstituted Cp with, for example, a tert-butyl group can be considered as sterically demanding.
