In cultured rat glial cells, ChK prevented the inhibition of gap junction-mediated intercellular communication by two organochlorine pesticides, dieldrin and endosulfan.29 In these experiments, pretreatment of glial cells with 1 or 10 pM ChK prevented, in a dose-dependent manner, dieldrin- or endosulfan-induced inhibition of gap junction-mediated communication, assayed by fluorescent dye... [Pg.275]

Fellutamide A (15) was found to be a potent agent in stimulating the synthesis of nerve growth factor (NGF) and enhancing its secretion in vitro in L-M cells, rat brain cells and rat glial cells. It has a different mode of action than epinephrine. In vivo studies are needed to specify the effectiveness and usefulness of this new substance [162]. [Pg.1060]

The cultured cells that we have been studying are immature and may therefore be models for the developing brain rather than the mature brain. The mouse neuroblastoma cells, however, can be induced to differentiate by exposure to 0.5mM sodium butyrate (Fig 7). This causes an increase in cytoplasm nucleus ratio, neurite outgrowth and induction of tyrosine hydroxylase and other enzymes. As shown in Fig 8, butyrate caused an increase in T3 uptake at 2 hours. The initial (l min) uptake was also increased. The apparent Ka of nuclear binding in intact cells with the finding that the apparent affinity of the nuclear receptor was decreased by butyrate but the Ka in isolated nuclei was not affected. The apparent inconsistency of an increased intracellular transport but a decreased intracellular free T/ concentration is unexplained. As described by others in developing rats and in cultured rat glial cells we also found that neuroblast differentiation was accompanied by an increase in nuclear receptor number. [Pg.46]

The rat glial cell is a crucial cell in the nervous system, which not only connects and supports nerve components but also provides growth factors and distributes nutrients throughout the nervous system [41], Thus these cells were selected to study in vitro cell interactions with nerve repair scaffolds. The cells were seeded onto... [Pg.614]

From the above discussion, it can be concluded that alternating block PU PUCL-flZZ-PEG displays the highest cell viability of rat glial cells. This suggests that alternating block PU (such as sample PUC20-a-E4) would be an ideal class of PUs with... [Pg.616]

One mechanism could be related to the pro-inflammatory effects of bupivacaine and lidocaine. Bupivacaine potentiates nitric oxide synthase-2 (NOS2) activity in rat glial cells, stimulating inflammation through the production of nitric oxide [18 ] and lidocaine selectively upregulates pro-inflammatory proteins [19 ]. This might not be a class effect of local anesthetics, as newer local anesthetics, such as ropivacaine, do not promote inflammatory processes [20, 21, 22 ]. [Pg.282]
