Query reporting

Ensure search and sort query reporting fadhties are available or developed. 

Data archiving limits the growth of databases allowing database queries, report generation, data writes, and amendments to be completed within the performance requirements for ongoing operation. 

The Cousin approach to ADT support has a number of limitations. The implementation was achieved by enveloping the relational kernel with a shell to provide the ADT capabihty. This technique makes it difficult to optimise many queries and requires the creation of new application programs ad hoc query, report generator, etc.) to take advantage of the ADTs defined. A more satisfactory solution would be achieved by the full integration of the ADT concept at all levels of the DBMS. This would result in the opportunity to provide better query optimisation and to use standard vendor-supplied application programs. 

Research project databases include information on abstracts and reports categorized by research projects. Such factual databases allow one to search for projects in various fields of science and technology wdth numeric and textual queries. 

Another important feature of a LIMS DBMS is the abiUty to perform ad hoc database queries. It is impossible to predict all the forms in which LIMS users will want to display their data while the LIMS is being designed. As a result, it is desirable to select a LIMS which allows users to define their own reports. Most commercial DBMS have a standard query language (SQL) interface. The four queries were examined against a list of samples tested on Whelk CSP that constitutes our search domain. Search results are summarized in Table 4-3. Of the 616 3D structures in this database list, 370 fit at least one of the query (one sample may fit more than one query) and 335 are given as resolved according to chromatographic data or information reported in the field comment. Query 2 retrieved the largest number of compounds with a high percentage of resolved samples in the hit list. While the number of hits retrieved with Query 1 is lower, this query provided a similar proportion of resolved samples (93 %). 

Recently queries have been raised concerning the validity of using proportional changes in A and g (and the maintenance of constant calculated Pi) as evidence that photosynthetic capacity has decreased. In the calculation of p, (Equation 2), it is assumed that CO2 and H2O exchange are uniform over the area of leaf under consideration. However, it has been reported that there is a wide variation in aperture of stomata within a small area of the leaves of Oryza sativa (Ishihara, Nishihara Ogura, 1971),... 

Incorporating the Kirtas system with the International Plant Names Index and SNOW-MED allows movement of the historic text into an electronic format, identihcation of current plant names, and identihcation of the symptoms treated with the plants. To complete the mining of historic herbal texts for novel drug leads we use the Natural Products Alert (NAPRALERT ) database to compare the information extracted from the historic herbal text to the reports of plant use in the current literature. The NAPRALERT database provides a summary of plants ethnopharmacological use, biochemical activities, and isolated compounds [27]. By querying each plant (with the current plant name) it is possible to identify any reports in the current literature regarding the plant. As an example, Table 4.1 shows the NAPRALERT output for Cycas rumphii.
