Consideration also should be given to the training needs of contractor personnel to ensure that they are qualified to perform their assigned tasks. Assurance should be obtained that contractor personnel have the required qualifications prior to independent involvement in these activities.

This paper is concerned with the definition and documentation of primary raw data, or in other words, raw data directly associated with a study. Items such as standard operating procedures, methods, personnel qualifications and training records can be considered secondary raw data. Thus, even though these items are also archived, they are not considered explicitly here. Other areas of inspection focus include sampling protocols, in process controls and specifications, further guidance on the quality of data, computerised systems (more details will be given in the next section), and laboratory management to determine the overall GMP compliance of the facility.
