Purpose of the meeting

The main purpose of the Technical Committee Meeting (TCM) was to exchange information on the development of safety approaches to enhance the safety of future NPPs, by utilities, regulators and other organizations to note those areas where significant agreement already exists and to consider further harmonization of these approaches in the future. 

The purpose of this TCM is consistent with and supports recommendations made at two other recent IAEA meetings  

The International Symposium on Advanced Nuclear Power Systems held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, in October 1993, on the desirability of wider international harmonization of design and safety objectives  

The Technical Committee Meeting and Workshop on Review of Engineering Safety Systems of Advanced Light Water Reactors, held in Moscow in May 1994, on the necessity to clarify regulatory approaches for future nuclear power plants in various countries.

At the end of this meeting, a formal critique should be considered to consolidate lessons learned for future meetings. The critique should consider what went well and what changes could he made to improve future meetings. It would also be appropriate at the conclusion of the session to thank the participants for their contributions, to restate the purpose of the meeting, and to recap how and whether it was achieved. 

Hospitality available at sales promotions must always be reasonable in level and secondary to the main purposes of the meeting. It may be offered only to healthcare professionals. 

Companies must not provide hospitality to members of the health professions and appropriate administrative staff except in association with scientific meetings, promotional meetings, scientific congresses and other such meetings. Hospitality must be secondary to the purpose of the meeting. The level of hospitality offered must be appropriate and not out of proportion to the occasion. The costs involved must not exceed that level which the recipients would normally adopt when pa)dng for themselves. An opening meeting should be held with the auditee and his/her management, if appropriate, and those responsible for the functions and processes to be audited, in order to confirm the audit plan and the sequence of reviews and topics and to present the audit procedures. If the relatives opinion remains steadfast despite all due processes having been allowed, and if the opinion of all caregivers is that continued treatment is not in the patient s best interests, a case conference should be called with clinical, legal, and family representatives. The purpose of the meeting is to consider the hospital s view on propriety, the risk of taking a view contrary to the patient s relatives, and to consider an application to request involvement of the judiciary.
