Pumps specification sheets

In the example the manufacturer has been specified from available performance curves, and the details of construction must be obtained. The pump is selected to operate at 22 GPM and 196 to 200 feet head of fluid, and must also perform at good efficiency at 18 GPM and a head which has not been calculated, but w hich will be close to 196 to 200 feet, say about 185 feet. Ordinarily the pump is rated as shown on the specification sheet. This insures adequate capacity and head at conditions somewhat in excess of normal. In this case the design GPM w as determined by adding 10 percent to the capacity and allowing for operation at 90 percent of the rated efficiency. Often this latter condition is not considered, although factors of safety of 20 percent are not unusual. However, the efficiency must be noted and the increase in horsepower recognized as factors w hich are mounted onto normal operating conditions. 

Standard specification sheets are normally used to transmit the information required for the detailed design, or purchase, of equipment items such as, heat exchangers, pumps, columns. 

The report around each unit includes material and energy balance, input and output streams, as well as some information about unit performance. Here we may include the sizing report. Some simulation systems may export the results of sizing in the form of specification sheets, which are basic documents in engineering. Here we may mention standardised documents for heat exchangers, distillation columns, vessels, pumps, filters, etc. Some simulators offer automatic interface of simulation data to engineering... 

The design has to be represented in a way that facilitates its manufacture, erection, and maintenance, according to a system of order that best suits the overall project. (The pump data sheet and specification are configured according to API 610, a standard with which the target suppliers are familiar.)... 

It is usually process engineer s responsibility to specify a pump s process requirement on a pump data sheet. Providing the pump process specification is the first step to purchase a new pump or to rate an existing pump. The common practice is to select s new pump from a pump manufacturer s catalog by matching the pump s process requirement Veiy rarely, a new pump has to be designed from scratch. 

When specified by the purchaser, the pump suction specific speed shall be limited as stated on the data sheet. 

Certified test curves and data (Appendix T) shall be submitted within 15 days after testing and shall inelude head, power recalculated to the proper specific gravity, and efficiency, plotted against capacity. If applicable, viseosity corrections shall be indicated. The water NPSHR curve shall be included, drawn from actual test data, for an impeller east from the same pattern. The curve sheet shall include the maximum and minimum diameters of the impeller design supplied, the eye area of the first-stage impeller, the identification number of the impeller or impellers, and the pump serial number.

If pumps with axiallysplit casings are furnished, a sheet gasket suitable for the service is acceptable. Spiral wound gaskets should contain a filler material suitable for the service. Gaskets other than spiral wound, may be proposed and furnished if proven suitable for service and specifically approved by the purchaser.
