Public warehouse

Computer programs permit forecasting present and future needs for private or public warehouses and break-bulk points and to determine their size and location. 

Inventory Collect information on inventory turns and levels, fill rates, safety stock levels, and ABC analysis. By having this information, the savings of consohdating facilities can be determined. Also collect which, and how much, stock is slow moving or seasonal to help determine if it should be centralized in one location or whether public warehouse space should be used. Get future inventory goals.

Suppliers—and customers—are more favorably disposed to work with distributors that have broad geographic representation than those that are only active in a few areas, and usually is a requirement for processors with multiple plant locations. This should never be a problem for a distributor, as it is not necessary to own a number of warehouses. There are many perfectly adequate public warehouses that can be very effectively utilized on an as-needed basis, without the need of owning, staffing, and managing substantial real estate assets. For example, the Denver area is home to a number of mostly small processors, whose need for overnight deliveries can be best served by keeping stocks in local public warehouses. 

Acid used in the formation process is removed from the batteries and reused. The batteries are washed, fresh acid is added, and the batteries are tested, re-washed, and inspected before being shipped to an on-site warehouse. The intermediate and final washes generate process wastewater, as do the battery repair and housekeeping (floor washing) operations. This wastewater Is pretreated on-site and then piped to the local publicly owned treatment works (POTW).

The other subsystems comprising the ISNEM include the Archiving Subsystem with electronic databases for storing all the accumulated data the Process Data Subsystem, comprising warehouse data and applications designed for data processing into a format required by end users and the Data Provision Subsystem, to be used by public administration, public figures and the Central Statistical Office (Nawalaniec, 2003). Data will be provided in the form of reports published on the Internet. 

Exposure to the public and the environment from certain chemicals may result in serious short and long term consequences. Events that can precipitate a chemical release from a warehouse include fire, on-site accidents, natural perils, or accidents involving trucks making deliveries to or from the warehouse. These events may result in dispersion of hazardous chemicals throughout the surrounding community, particularly if a release involves smoke, vapors, or gases. A hazardous release may involve the actual chemicals stored, reaction products from chemical decomposition, or mixing of incompatible chemicals, or products of combustion. 

Chemical warehouses should be constructed with provisions for spill containment and drainage to provide protection to the surrounding property, ground water, surface water and public sewers in the event of an accidental chemical release or discharge of sprinkler water. This protection should be commensurate with the toxicity of the stored materials and the risk and consequence of exposures. 

For incidents beyond the capabilities of the resources at the warehouse, appropriate outside agencies such as public emergency responders, environmental and emergency management agencies, remediation firms and mutual aid groups should be included in the plan. The need for an off-site emergency coordination and communication control center should also be considered. 

Employees should be instructed and drilled on when and how to evacuate and where to assemble after leaving the warehouse. An evacuation plan should include a person or persons assigned to ensure that all employees have vacated the warehouse and have been accounted for. Employee notification that an emergency condition exists could be done through the use of a public address system or the warehouse fire alarm system.

One of the considerations in selecting a site is whether or not the site is in a free trade zone (FTZ) and whether or not the FIZ meets the company s needs. FTZs are secured areas within the United States but they are legally considered outside the company s territory. The purpose is to attract and promote international trade and commerce. Foreign and domestic goods may be stored, manufactured, and processed duty-free in the FTZ, which is typically a fenced-in area with warehouse facilities and industrial park space and access to aU modes of transportation. Subzones, which fall beyond the perimeter of the public zone, are set up to accommodate industries that satisfy spedflc government criteria (e.g. abihty to generate public benefit through employment). 

Pure WNRP research can also continue by incorporating the combined usage of private, public, and contract warehouses into the mathematical modeling process.
