Psycho-organic syndrome

Measurements taken at my workplace indicated that the ventilation was barely functioning, allowing chemical substances and gases to accumulate too much. Within a year I was once again very sick with very diverse complaints pain everywhere, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, intestinal problems, skin problems, difficulty thinking, and so on. Coincidentally my internal specialist read an article in the newspaper about chronic toxic encephalopathy (CTE or psycho-organic syndrome). 

Chronic moderate- to high-level exposure to some organic solvents, such as carbon disulfide, n-hexane and methyl n-butyl ketone, can cause encephalopathies (14), which have been variously described as organic solvent syndrome , painters syndrome , psycho-organic syndrome , and chronic solvent encephalopathy (15).

Vinpocetine (2), another dmg initially categorized as a cerebral vasodilator, is a member of the vinca alkaloid family of agents (7). However, interest in this compound as a potential dmg for learning and memory deficits comes from its abiUty to act as a neuronal protectant. This compound was evaluated in 15 patients with AD over a one-year period and was ineffective in improving cognitive deficits or slowing the rate of decline (8). However, in studies of patients with chronic vascular senile cerebral dysfunction (9) and organic psycho syndrome (10), vinpocetine showed beneficial results. 

From 1 January 2000, Dutch law prohibits the use by professional carpet fitters of solvent-based adhesives. The Organic Psycho Syndrome law concerns the adhering of coverings to floors, stairs, walls and ceilings in houses and any other buildings. Key issue in the OPS law is that professional users are no longer allowed to use products containing more than 0.5% solvents. The law also affects painters and parquet installers.
