In order to make as much data on the structure and its determination available in the databases, approaches for automated data harvesting are being developed. Structure classification schemes, as implemented for example in the SCOP, CATH, andFSSP databases, elucidate the relationship between protein folds and function and shed light on the evolution of protein domains. 

Proteins may be classified according to their chemical composition, their shape, or their function. Protein composition and function are treated in detail in a biochemistry course. For now, we briefly survey the types of proteins and their general classifications.

More than 50 proteins have been discovered in the cytosol of nonmuscle cells that bind to actin and affect the assembly and disassembly of actin filaments or the cross-linking of actin filaments with each other, with other filamentous components of the cytoskeleton, or with the plasma membrane. Collectively, these are known as actin-binding proteins (ABPs). Their mechanisms of actions are complex and are subject to regulation by specific binding affinities to actin and other molecules, cooperation or competition with other ABPs, local changes in the concentrations of ions in the cytosol, and physical forces (Way and Weeds, 1990). Classifications of ABPs have been proposed that are based on their site of binding to actin and on their molecular structure and function (Pollard and Cooper, 1986 Herrmann, 1989 Pollard et al., 1994). IUPAC classification, mesoporous materials are defined as porous materials with diameters in the range 2-50 nm, which is rather dose to the dimensions of functional biomolecules such as proteins. Therefore, unexplored phenomena and functions could be observed for biomolecules confined in mesopore channels due to their restricted motion and orientation. In this chapter, we briefly introduce recent developments on the immobilization of biomolecules in mesoporous media, where the use of mesoporous silica and mesoporous carbon are mainly discussed. 

The objectives of the present study were to compare the processes of protein and starch concentration by dry air classification and wet alkali extraction of protein and starch from field pea and fababean. The yields, composition and functionality of the crude and refined products were compared.
