Property costs

Packaging. Because of the extremely broad demands on the mechanical properties of packaging materials, the entire range of ceUular polymers from rigid to flexible is used in this appHcation. The most important considerations are mechanical properties, cost, ease of appHcation or fabrication, moisture susceptibUity, thermal conductivity, and aesthetic appeal. [Pg.416]

The primary siting factors which influence the selection of a plant location are as follows environmental considerations, labor avadabihty and productivity, raw material avadabihty, proximity to market, property cost, accessibdity to transportation, tax iacentives, electric power avadabdity and cost, and living conditions. [Pg.85]

In designing an alloy, polymer chemists choose candidate resins according to the properties, cost, and/or processing characteristics required in the end product. Next, compatibility of the constituents is studied, tested, and either optimised or accommodated. [Pg.11]

A compromise among properties, cost, and manufacturing process generally determines the material of construction. Selecting a plastic is very similar to selecting a metal. Even within one class, plastics differ because of varying formulations, just as steel compositions vary (tool steel, stainless steel, etc.). There are, of course, products for which no plastics is satisfactory, and the interests of the producer and consumer alike are best served by using some other material. [Pg.412]

Acrylic Polymerization Model. Acrylic polymers are known to have excellent weathering and functional properties as binders for coatings, and they are widely used in the coatings as well as many other industries. To obtain the desirable property/cost balance, random copolymers instead of blends of homopolymers are frequently used. [Pg.171]

To understand plastics, one must first appreciate and accept the polymer chemist s ability too literally rearrange the molecular structure of the polymer (that becomes the plastic) to provide an almost infinite variety of compositions that differ in form, melt behavior, thermal behavior, appearance, properties, cost, and other behaviors. One must also approach the subject with a completely open mind that will accept all the contradictions that could make it difficult to pin common labels on the different families of plastics or even on the many various types within a single family that are reviewed in this book. Since each plastic has distinctive characteristics such as performance properties and/or fabricating procedures, they are labeled by their many different behaviors. This section highlights a few of the behaviors. Throughout this book many more behaviors are presented. [Pg.17]

Although there are literally thousands of plastics available, usually no single one will exhibit all desired properties in their proper relationships. Therefore a compromise among properties, cost, and fabricating process generally determines the material of construction. [Pg.124]

The value of property items, such as land, buildings, and equipment, is usually reported as the value of the asset at the time of purchase. Depreciation reserves are also indicated, and the difference between the original property cost and the depreciation reserve represents the book value of the property. Thus, in depreciation accounting, separate records showing accumulation in the depreciation reserve must be maintained. In the customary account, reserve for depreciation is not actually a separate fund but is merely a bookkeeping method for recording the decline in property value. [Pg.140]

When faced with a conflict, two major, related questions need to be answered Is this conflict important to me How do I know whether the situation is imperative to address Ury et al. (1988) gauge the answers to these questions in terms of transaction cost. The authors reason that in conflict, like in business, you want to minimize the costs. You need to consider the time cost, actual money cost, opportunity cost, and property cost and then determine the course of action that minimizes them. The answers also factor in satisfaction, long-term effects on relationships, and durability of a solution. For you, it may be helpful to analyze the person s relationship to you. Is this a significant relationship Will you have to deal with this person in the future Do you want things to work out In the case of a family member, boss, subordinate, or colleague, the answer is usually yes. With other scenarios such as a rude street vendor or casual acquaintance, the answer might be no. If this is your decision, there is no need to continue further. [Pg.125]
