Specifically, the reinforcement of polymers with glass fibers substantially improves mechanical properties such as strength and stiffness improves dimensional stability, mold shrinkage, and chemical resistance and improves the dc electrical properties of dielectric strength and arc resistance as well as ac dielectric constant and dissipation factor. Both increases and decreases are noted in volume resistivities. Reinforcement also reduces percent elongation and thermal expansion properties. [Pg.17]

GRTP composites significantly improve the property shortcomings of thermoplastic systems such as creep, low modulus, dimensional stability, mold shrinkage, low temperature impact, and high temperature stiffness loss. [Pg.18]

Clear, cast rods of poly(acrylonitrile-co-MA), with 1-15% anhydride, have been prepared.Properties of the castings were not reported. The MA-acrylonitrile copolymers have been claimed to be useful as a polyelectrolyte soil conditioner, polyacrylonitrile (PAN) stabilizer, molding resin additive, antistatic additive,cation-exchange resin, and sizing agent for various textiles. There are claims that MA, maleimide, and other MA derivatives perform as stabilizers for polyacrylonitrile materials. [Pg.278]

To aid in the initial processing of the part, a computer aided mold-flow analysis was completed to identify processing windows. The mold-flow analysis allowed for the evaluation of dimensional stability, mold fill times, weld line identification, as well as many other outputs. The analysis also served... [Pg.295]

Prepared feeds are marketed in various forms from very fine particles through cmmbles, flakes, and pellets. Pelleted rations may be hard, semimoist, or moist. Hard pellets typically contain less than 10% water and can be stored under cool, dry conditions for at least 90 days without deterioration of quahty. Semimoist pellets are chemically stabilized to protect them from degradation and mold if they are properly stored, while moist pellets must be frozen if they are not used immediately after manufacture. Moist feeds are produced in machines similar to sausage grinders. [Pg.21]

The fluid plasticizer (solvent) consists of an energetic compound, eg, nitroglycerin, an inert carrier, and a stabilizer. The system is evacuated to remove volatiles, moisture, and air, and the plasticizer is then pressurized and passed slowly upward through the powder bed while the powder is held stationary by a pressure plate on the powder column. Casting solvent may also be added from the top of the mold. [Pg.47]

The beater additive process starts with a very dilute aqueous slurry of fibrous nitrocellulose, kraft process woodpulp, and a stabilizer such as diphenylamine in a felting tank. A solution of resin such as poly(vinyl acetate) is added to the slurry of these components. The next step, felting, involves use of a fine metal screen in the shape of the inner dimensions of the final molded part. The screen is lowered into the slurry. A vacuum is appHed which causes the fibrous materials to be deposited on the form. The form is pulled out after a required thickness of felt is deposited, and the wet, low density felt removed from the form. The felt is then molded in a matched metal mold by the appHcation of heat and pressure which serves to remove moisture, set the resin, and press the fibers into near final shape (180—182). [Pg.53]

Red Phosphorus. This aHotropic form of phosphoms is relatively nontoxic and, unlike white phosphoms, is not spontaneously flammable. Red phosphoms is, however, easily ignited. It is a polymeric form of phosphoms having thermal stabiUty up to ca 450°C. In finely divided form it has been found to be a powerful flame-retardant additive (26,45—47). In Europe, it has found commercial use ia molded nylon electrical parts ia a coated and stabilized form. Handling hazards and color have deterred broad usage. The development of a series of masterbatches by Albright Wilson should facihtate further use. [Pg.476]

Eoamable compositions in which the pressure within the cells is increased relative to that of the surroundings have generally been called expandable formulations. Both chemical and physical processes are used to stabilize plastic foams from expandable formulations. There is no single name for the group of cellular plastics produced by the decompression processes. The various operations used to make cellular plastics by this principle are extmsion, injection mol ding, and compression molding. Either physical or chemical methods may be used to stabilize products of the decompression process. [Pg.404]

Chocolate (0.3—0.5% lecithin) lecithin is a wetting agent and emulsifier. It facihtates mixing, saves processiag time and power, saves cocoa butter, stabilizes viscosity, iacreases shelf life, counteracts moisture thickening, and aids release of molded goods (see Chocolate and cocoa). [Pg.104]

The largest use for 2,4-dicumylphenol is in a production of a uv stabilizer of the benzotriazole class, 2-(2 -hydroxy-3, 5 -dicumylphenyl)benzotriazole [70321-86-7] which is used in engineering thermoplastics where high molding temperatures are encountered (67). The high molecular weight of... [Pg.69]
