Programme Information

In 1990, the first DOS programme was developed to supplement this work on the fluid dynamics of columns containing random and structured packings, which has since been improved and is now available as a WINDOWS version with graphic representation of the calculation results. 

This FDPAK programme provides chemical engineers with a fast calculation the hydraulic parameters of any types of column internals (more than 200) and allows the user to assess the individual types of packings in terms of their maximum capacity, pressure drop and liquid hold-up. The experience of the past 20 years has shown that the programme is also suitable for teaching purposes at colleges and universities.

The safety assessment/case needs to evolve in a planned and structured manner through life so that it supports all stages of the programme, informs all the key decision makers and provides a clear audit trail to support the safety claims at all stages of the project from concept to disposal (Dallimore, 2003). 

All the information is documented in a comprehensive well proposal which forms the basis for the drilling engineering planning input. This is translated into a drilling programme, an example of which is shown below. 

A programme of monitoring the reservoir is carried out, in which me asurements are made and data are gathered. Figure 14.2 indicates some of the tools used to gather data, the information which they yield, and the way In which the information is fed back to update the models and then used to refine the ongoing reservoir development strategy. 

The reservoir model will usually be a computer based simulation model, such as the 3D model described in Section 8. As production continues, the monitoring programme generates a data base containing information on the performance of the field. The reservoir model is used to check whether the initial assumptions and description of the reservoir were correct. Where inconsistencies between the predicted and observed behaviour occur, the model is reviewed and adjusted until a new match (a so-called history match ) is achieved. The updated model is then used to predict future performance of the field, and as such is a very useful tool for generating production forecasts. In addition, the model is used to predict the outcome of alternative future development plans. The criterion used for selection is typically profitability (or any other stated objective of the operating company). 

In order to minimize the radiation dose, the inspection time is limited to 30 seconds of exposure (programmable) after which the X-ray on/off shutter will shutter off the X-rays and the block must be unloaded. A timer will keep the operator informed of the time that has elapsed. 

ROM, PROM, EPROM is Read Only Memory, Programmable Read Only Memory and Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory and are used for rapid sourees of information that seldom, or never need to be modified.

Ideally, this information should be made available in the form of easy-to-use nomographs or empirical equations which can be quickly and rapidly solved on a programmable desk calculator. New instrumentation which can be used on an in-line basis to analyze process streams for the concentrations of plutonium in different oxidation states is also needed.
