Profit conservation

Every iadustry has its owa sease of what a reasoaable royalty might be. Whereas earned royalties are usually based oa aet sales, a very rough rule of thumb is that an earned royalty reflects approximately 25% of profits earned on the particular technology. Minimum royalties are often based on one-fourth to one-thind of a conservative projection of sales. [Pg.108]

Net Present Va.Iue, Each of the net annual cash flows can be discounted to the present time using a discount factor for the number of years involved. The discounted flows are then all at the same time point and can be combined. The sum of these discounted net flows is called the net present value (NPV), a popular profit criterion. Because the discounted positive flows first offset the negative investment flows in the NPV summation, the investment capital is recovered if the NPV is greater than zero. This early recovery of the investment does not correspond to typical capital recovery patterns, but gives a conservative and systematic assumption for investment recovery. [Pg.447]

This figure is of course an estimate of lost profit and may even be conservative, but it clearly shows that the designer has a significant role in reducing the high costs of failure reported by many manufacturing companies. The results are repeated in the Conformability Matrix in Figure 2.33. [Pg.88]

Tangible benefits of consolidation could be identified readily. Experience in the Conroe field as well as other large MER fields has shown that the con solidated/automated production method improves safety, environmental compliance, and energy conservation and increases the profitability of existing reserves. On the basis of this experience, the plan for consolidating all properties was presented to the unit working interest owners for approval. Consolidation and automation were approved on the basis of economic benefits in six major areas. [Pg.50]

The approximation for the TMRad is valid if conversion can be ignored. For autocatalytic reactions, the maximum heat release rate is reached at non-zero conversion, and thus conversion can no longer be ignored. Moreover, since the maximum of the heat release rate is often used to obtain an estimate of the TM Rad, the obtained TM Rad is definitely too short. The resulting risk assessment is therefore too conservative and may even endanger the development of a profitable process. [Pg.324]

However, in May 2006, when the verified emissions of the four companies were published, it turned out that these companies did not have an allocation deficit but rather a small surplus. This implies that the estimate of the windfall profits by Frontier Economics was indeed quite conservative, as actually it is at least 50 million higher. [Pg.68]

Assume that the identical rate of expatriate Chinese financial support continued during the years 1965-78 in this form of investment, augmented only by a 10 percent inflation factor, highly conservative for the area. The aggregate investment during 1965-78 would amount to 6.3 billion, in joint operations with the PRC. Assume a 40 percent annual profit margin on this investment,... [Pg.137]

However, in spite of this conservative approach, it is clear from Table I that the decomposition process offers considerably more profit potential than the conventional Claus process. Recalling that the totals in Table I represent only the comparative profitability, comparison of the actual profit generated by each process favors the decomposition process more strongly. For example, the total capital and operating costs for a medium sized (150 - 200 tonne/day)... [Pg.351]

Your preparation should also include following a realistic simulation of a process through a complete phase of eight to ten cycles. Realistic simulation implies that measurements of the response to be optimized (e.g., yield, profit, etc.) include some error, or noise, t)-pical of that caused by such factors as raw-material variations, equipment fluctuations and instrument deviations. Because of the conservative nature of EVOP, the response changes and the noise may occasionally have comparable values however, as the number of cycles increases, the simulation will show that even though the best run may vary from cycle to cycle, the effects of the noise will eventually average out so that the true responses and variable effects can be determined. At the completion of a phase, the worksheet calculations... [Pg.117]
