The main structure of seat backs is traditionally made of metal. This is often a tubular steel fi ame, wifli various brackets and reinforcemaits attached by welding or mechanical fasteners. The central section of the fi-ame is normally closed using steel sheet, which may have contours to provide added stiflhess. In some cases, the frame is formed by welding steel profiles around the perimeter of a main steel sheet. Often the seat back can be folded down to allow more space for luggage, forming a load floor surface. The foam is traditionally attached to the steel structure and must form the shape, which intofaces with the occupant, and provide the fore-aft and lateral support and comfort. [Pg.750]

Some new applications were showcased at the American Composites Manufacturers Association annual conference, Composites Polycon 2007, in Tampa, Florida. These included scaffolding for the construction industry and a new steel-free concrete deck (see Fig. 12.14). Creative Pultrusions Inc. has developed a tough, hght and more corrosion resistant composite sheet piling system (Fig. 12.15) named SuperLoc profiles. These profiles consist of polyester resin matrix with more than 100 fibreglass rovings in the core, plus two phes of continuous strand mat. Continuously working double-belt presses are most suitable for an industrial, inexpensive and time-saving application of hot-compaction exclusively for continous profiles or flat sheets. These systems fixate the self-reinforced semifinished textile products between two tempered, continuously running steel belts and press them according to the predefined thickness and compaction degree requirements [58].
