Product finishes strategy

Mass customization and postponement. Customers demand individualized products with similar cost and delivery time characteristics as those of standardized products. Postponement is one of the strategies for delivering market-specific and customized products. It implies location (in time and space) of the product finishing close to the point of demand. [Pg.26]

Since both the manufacturer and his suppliers are forced to work by the same strategy, each company s raw materials QC and finished product QC laboratories test only for the most obvious characteristics. An undetected change in a raw material s properties might change a product characteristic that could also go unnoticed until much later. [Pg.295]

Vacuum forming has limitations due to the non-uniform wall thicknesses of its products. As the sheet is drawn into the mold, its thickness decreases, especially in the corners. For this reason, just as in blow molding, we design vacuum formed products to have rounded corners. If the depth of the cavity is excessive, walls can become locally so thin that they are unacceptably weak. One strategy that we use to alleviate this problem is to pump air into the cavity after the sheet has been clamped. This inflates the sheet, pushing it upwards and expanding its area approximately uniformly. When we subsequently apply a vacuum the expanded sheet is drawn back down into the mold. The finished product has a more uniform wall thickness than if we had applied the vacuum directly. [Pg.273]

In trying to grab the other companies, Von Schnitzler met the government opposition cleverly. He did not seek immediate control he suggested that the Economic Ministry appoint Farben men as "trustees for the Reich," with authority to "continue the works or to close them and make use of the stocks of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products." Von Schnitzler pointed out that 85 per cent of coal tar and intermediates produced by Farben for the Nazi war machine came from Ludwigshafen in western Germany. Strategy demanded that Farben find safer eastern plants such as these in Poland. [Pg.120]

Figure 13.5 Outline of the production strategy of CEA-SCAN. The antibody-producing hybridoma cell line was originally obtained by standard methods of hybridoma generation. Spleen-derived murine B-lymphocytes were fused with murine myeloma calls. The resulting stable hybridomas were screened for the production of anti-CEA monoclonals. The clone chosen produces an IgG anti-CEA antibody. Note that the finished product outlined above is not radiolabelled. The freeze-dried antibody preparation (which has a shelf life of 2 years at 2-8 °C) is reconstituted immediately prior to its medical use. The reconstituting solution contains 99mTc, and is formulated to facilitate direct conjugation of the radiolabel to the antibody fragment... Moreover, this book doesn t just tell you how to write better. It shows you how to write better. You ll find page after page of examples of strategies that work. They re not just described—you actually see them in action. You ll also find examples of real writing with callouts that show you the strategies and steps behind the finished product—this way you can see the writing process at work. [Pg.10]

One strategy for checking the organization of all the paragraphs in your paper is to outline your finished product. Here is an outline you can fill in using one of your own papers. [Pg.95]

Since hot pepper is important for the food and the pharmaceutical industries, a range of different methods have been developed for the analysis of capsaicinoids in plant material and finished products. The separation of CPS (la) and nonivamide (11) is especially challenging, since these compounds have similar behavior in many chromatographic conditions. Since synthetic nonivamide is the most common adulterant of capsicum oleoresin, various strategies have been suggested to overcome this problem. Capillary GC does not require previous derivatization of capsaicinoids, but its separatory power seems lower than that of HPLC, currently the most popular technique for the quantization of capsaicinoids. GC is, however, the method of choice for the analysis of the acyl moieties of capsaicinoids as methyl esters. These can be directly produced from capsaicinoids by oxidative N-dealkylation with DDQ (2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyanobenzoquinone), followed by alcoholysis of the resulting amides with methanol in the presence of an acidic resin (Scheme 4.4) [41]. [Pg.83]
