Processing aids incorporation

Enzymes are currently applied across many industries and are used as processing aids, incorporated into final products, and used in biocatalysis for chemical production. The global market for industrial enzymes will continue to expand as enzymes find their way into new markets and attract greater interest from the chemical industry at large. Several factors will contribute to this growth ... [Pg.1418]

In the pulp and paper industry, anionic and cationic acrylamide polymers are used as chemical additives or processing aids. The positive effect is achieved due to a fuller retention of the filler (basically kaoline) in the paper pulp, so that the structure of the paper sheet surface layer improves. Copolymers of acrylamide with vi-nylamine not only attach better qualities to the surface layer of.paper, they also add to the tensile properties of paper in the wet state. Paper reinforcement with anionic polymers is due to the formation of complexes between the polymer additive and ions of Cr and Cu incorporated in the paper pulp. The direct effect of acrylamide polymers on strength increases and improved surface properties of paper sheets is accompanied by a fuller extraction of metallic ions (iron and cobalt, in addition to those mentioned above), which improves effluent water quality. [Pg.71]

Workplace safety has been taken care of by the reworking of some classes of additives into more environmentally acceptable forms. Some trends are the increased use of additive concentrates or masterbatches and the replacement of powder versions by uniform pellets or pastilles which release less dust and flow more easily. Moreover, the current move to multicomponent formulations of stabilisers and processing aids in a low- or nondusting product also takes away the risk of operator error, aids quality control, ISO protocols and good housekeeping. An additional benefit is more homogeneous incorporation of the additives in the polymeric matrix. [Pg.725]

The next step is the incorporation of various additives—compounding. Typical additives include fillers, processing aids, activators, age resistors, sulfur, antioxidants, and antiozone compounds, extenders, plasticizers, blowing agents, pigments, and accelerators. [Pg.555]

Tile is based mainly on vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate copolymers. Some polypropylene tile systems have recently been introduced. A petroleum resin is usually employed as an extender and processing aid conventional vinyl plasticizers and stabilizers also are incorporated. Reinforcing fibers and limestone constitute the remainder of the tile composition the fibers contribute hot strength for processing and dimensional stability in the finished tile, limestone supplies bulk at an economical cost. Stable pigments are also incorporated. Since tile is installed on and below grade level, it is important that the finished product be resistant to the effects of moisture and alkali. [Pg.335]

Some of these processing aids are incorporated into the bulk of the material rather than being directly applied to the surface and are known as internal release agents. In the process of migration to the surface they have an inevitable internal lubrication effect. Most internal lubricants also have an external lubricant effect, particularly at higher concentrations because usually some material finds its way to the exterior. [Pg.1434]

Measurable residual amounts or conversion products from the many different raw materials and processing aids used in the various plastic synthesis processes can remain in the finished material. Knowledge of these materials is indispensable for the toxicological evaluation of the plastics and their analysis. The same applies for the many chemically different additives which are incorporated into the plastic matrix to allow better processing, increase stability and to give the material specific properties. [Pg.11]

Other substances are also used as polymerization processing aids, like solvents (e.g. benzyl alcohol) and accelerators (e.g. nonylphenol). These processing aids are not significantly or not to a measurable degree chemically incorporated into the crosslinked polymer. Under the conditions of the epoxy thermoset reaction the epichlorohydrin, for example, is completely decomposed. Under the current, state of the art hardening technology, practically no epichlorohydrin can be detected in the finished product. [Pg.15]

Many polymeric plasticisers, impact modifies, and processing aids for PVC are incorporated into the PVC by mechanical mixing Many of these, including butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers chlori-... [Pg.129]

Many papers and patents deal with incorporation of additives in the poly-(urethane-seq-butadiene)s to increase the condensation efficiency, to improve the processing, or to improve the properties of solid propellants. A processing aid, trialkylamine 2201 and also tetracycline 221), was shown to reduce the viscosity and increase the pot life of hydroxytelechelic polybutadiene/polyisocyanate systems. It has been shown that the cure of isophorone diisocyanate and hydroxytelechelic polybutadienes was not affected by the addition of the ammonium perchlorate propellant 222). Special modification of HTPBs have been referred to in Refs. 223 236>. [Pg.215]

Process aids do not usually contribute to the performance of the dosage form in terms of quality or in vivo performance. Indeed, lubricants, because of their hydrophobic nature, can hinder disintegration and dissolution of solid dosage forms unless the level and mode of incorporation is carefully characterized and controlled. Thus, in addition to drug-excipient interactions, the potential for interexcipient competition and incompatibility must be considered and studied. [Pg.1613]
