Process control modes

This is a control algorithm that attempts to eliminate the offset (caused by proportional control) between the measurement and the setpoint of the controlled process variable. This control mode remembers how long the measurement has been off the setpoint. [Pg.292]

Process control and safety shutdowns must be provided during all modes of operation, not only in the RUN mode. Other modes will require a BPCS configured for the mode operating algorithm and very likely a different set of safety interlocks must provide appropriate protection. Hardwire devices, like timers or software logic, can be used to actuate the SIS pertinent to the operating mode. [Pg.82]

In the last 20-30 years material handling in mill rooms as well as the mixing process is highly automated. Also, downstream equipment runs in an automatic control mode. [Pg.978]

Han (H3) and Han and Wilenitz (H4) have also presented steady-state models of fertilizer granulators based on population balance on the granules in the process loop operating in the snowballing mode. From the viewpoint of process control some interesting interrelationships between various recycle ratios, crusher speed, crusher product size, and the granule growth rate have been established. [Pg.112]

All control modes previously described can return a process variable to a steady value following a disturbance. This characteristic is called "stability."... [Pg.121]

In the proportional control mode, the final control element is throttled to various positions that are dependent on the process system conditions. For example, a proportional controller provides a linear stepless output that can position a valve at intermediate positions, as well as "full open" or "full shut." The controller operates within a band that is between the 0% output point and the 100% output point and where the output of the controller is proportional to the input signal. [Pg.130]

In the proportional control mode, the final control element is throttled to various positions that are dependent on the process system conditions. [Pg.135]

Because of reset windup, this control mode is not well-suited for processes that are frequently shut down and started up. [Pg.143]

However, there are some processes that cannot tolerate offset error, yet need good stability. The logical solution is to use a control mode that combines the advantages of proportional, reset, and rate action. This chapter describes the mode identified as proportional plus reset plus rate, commonly called Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID). [Pg.151]

Technology advances in electronics such as process control instrumentation systems, computer capabilities, programmable logic controllers, and the use of independent PC s (personal computers) at field locations for special dedicated functions present new challenges to incident investigation. Some of the advances are so rapid that the team may not have the internal expertise to determine failure scenarios, sequences, and modes. The suppliers and manufacturers of these high-tech devices are sometimes the only source of credible information on failure modes of these devices. [Pg.174]

Avery sharp electromechanical resonance occurs at certain discrete frequencies of the voltage applied. If mass is added to the surface of the quartz crystal oscillating in resonance, this resonance frequency is diminished. This frequency shift is very reproducible and is now understood precisely for various oscillation modes of quartz. Today this phenomenon, which is easy to understand in heuristic terms, is an indispensable measuring and process control fool, with which a coating increase of less than one atomic layer can be detected. [Pg.125]

As far as experimental protocol is concerned, this will correspond to the mode of operation chosen. The protocol is essentially the analysis recipe and is generally a process controlled by predefined standards. This procedure involves standardisation at each stage of analysis from sample preparation to experimental measurement. [Pg.467]
