Process Cement

Rotary kilns operate at various temperatures throughout their length. A graph of approximate gas and charge temperatures for wet-process cement is shown in Fig. 12-67. The maximum charge temperature is 1700 to 1800 K for the gases, 1800 to 1925 K. Overall heat-transfer rates have been estimated to be in the range of 25 to 60 KJ/(s-m ) on the basis of total kiln volume. [Pg.1206]

Dry-Process Cement After crushing, the feed may be ground from a size of 5 to 6 cm (2 to 2 /2 in) to apowder of 75 to 90 percent passing a 200-mesh sieve in one or several stages. [Pg.1871]

Wet-Process Cement Ball, tube, and compartment mills of essentially the same construction as for the dry process are used for grinding. Water or clay shp is added at the reed end of the initial grinder, together with the roughly proportioned amounts of limestone and other components. [Pg.1871]

By substituting only 15% of its fossil fuel needs with solid hazardous waste fuel, a modern dry-process cement plant with an annual production capacity of 650,000 tons of clinker can save the energy equivalent of 50,000 barrels of oil (or 12,500 tons of coal) a year. Southdown typically replaces 10-20% of the fossil fuels it needs to make cement with hazardous waste fuels. [Pg.124]

Dry process cement production facilities often have several other types of manufacturing equipment designed to increase fuel efficiency. First, many dry process kilns add a preheater to the feed end of the kiln to begin heating of the feed prior to its entrance to the kiln. Two main types of preheaters exist, the suspension preheater and the traveling grate preheater both use hot, exiting kiln air to facilitate a more efficient heat transfer to the feed than could occur in the feed end of the kiln itself.1 This... [Pg.200]

In October, 1990, testing at Holnam/Ideal Cement, in Seattle, Washington, was performed at baseline (100 percent coal-fired), 11 percent TDF, and 14 percent TDF.12 Holnam is a wet process cement plant. The kiln emissions are controlled with an ESP. Particulate, SOz, NOx, VOC, and semi-volatile organic compound emissions decreased significantly from baseline for both 11 and 14 percent TDF use rates. CO emissions increased 30 and 36 percent,... [Pg.209]

Zinc Process [11.1,11.2,11.5,11.6]. In this process, cemented carbide scrap is treated in molten zinc or zinc vapor, which reacts with the binder to form intermetallic phases and a zinc-cobalt alloy. These reactions lead to a volume expansion of the binder and bloat the scrap. After vacuum distillation of zinc, the material is liiable and can be readily disintegrated. The condensed Zn can be re-used. The reclaimed carbide/metal sponge contains less than 50 ppm Zn. [Pg.382]
