Proactive Maintenance Programs

The EDS testing clearly showed that successful operation of the SCWO system requires an aggressive, proactive maintenance program to replace (1) the thermocouple well after approximately 60 hours of operation and (2) the titanium liner after approximately 130 hours of operation. 

To summarize, maintenance of a hydraulic system is the first line of defense to prevent component failure and thus improve equipment reliability. As discussed earlier, discipline is the key to the success of any proactive maintenance program. 

While the benefits of detecting abnormal machine wear or an aging lubricant condition are important and frequently achieved with oil analysis programs, they are of low importance when compared to the more rewarding objective of failure avoidance. This is achieved by treating the causes of failure, not just the symptoms. Also, it is the foundation of the popular practice known as proactive maintenance. 

Effective preventive/predictive maintenance programs will be used to anticipate and predict maintenance problems in order to eliminate the uncertainty of expected breakdowns and high repair costs. Predictive maintenance wiU not be limited solely to the detection of failure but will proactively identify and eliminate the root causes of chronic problems. Preventive/ predictive maintenance programs will be adequately staffed to cover adl major assets within the operation. Maintenance wiU maintain current techniceil knowledge and experience for applying a combination of predictive technologies that is best suited for the specific application or system. 

Percent craft utilization (CU) Evaluates actual wrench time (hands-on time) for craft labor. Provides one of the two key elements for measuring the overall craft effectiveness (OCE). Measures the overall increase in craft labor wrench time due to a proactive, planned maintenance strategy with effective planning and scheduhng, positive impact from the PM/PdM program, effective MRO materials management service, and improved CMMS.
