Primary management systems structure

The other major source for student acquisition of PDF files is the primary literature in the form of journals. The modern electronic journal functions in much the same way as a content management system. Retrieval of individual articles has been vastly expedited by the recent introduction of the widely implemented digital-object-identifier (DOI) [4]. This provides 1-click access by means of a hyperlink embedded directly in other documents, or from e.g. the navigation tree of a HTML-based Web document. Although ostensibly introduced to provide rapid access to the published scientific literature, the DOI identifier is also the first of the technologies discussed here that has the potential to achieve the holistic and interlinked information structures implied in the title of this article. 

The functions of a model base management system (MBMS), a structure for which is illustrated in Figure 10, are quite analogous to those of a DBMS. The primary functions of a DBMS are separation of system users, in terms of independence of the apphcation, from the physical aspects of database structure and processing. In a similar way, a MBMS is intended to provide independence between the specific models that are used in a DSS and the apphcations that use them. The purpose of a MBMS is to transform data from the DBMS into information that is useful for decision making. An auxiliary purpose might also include representation of information as data such that it can later be recalled and used.

The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act (HSW Act), 1974, instituted a system of enforced self-regulation which placed primary responsibility for health and safety with industry. It charged companies with risk management responsibilities which ideally involved companies in developing risk management systems and rules to secure compliance and also entailed worker participation (Ch. 6). But, as Dawson et al. (1988 44) warn, the creation of health and safety structures and procedures within a company is an imperfect measure which does not in itself indicate an improvement in health and safety. Indeed their own case studies demonstrated that compliance with the formalities did not necessarily indicate a serious and established concern to improve standards of health and safety (1988 87). There is therefore a need to consider the impact of these structures in terms of the difference they make at an everyday level. As Stone (1975) comments, the key task is to make bureaucracies think like responsible individuals, so the systems and decision-making processes they institute are critical. 

Recently, the management of large nuclear and fossil fuel thermal power plants have stimulated the development of diagnostic systems, in order to improve primary coolant quality. Such improvements constitute indirect tools for increasing the plant reliability and safety, both depending on the corrosion of the structural materials. 

Management of the thermal-hydraulics of the primary system and particularly die hot pool is most important for assuring the life time endurance of the structures.
