Primary classification

It is quite common ia the designs for fine classification to recontact the coarse stream transversely or ia counterflow with air before dischargiag it (see Fig. 9). This removes dry fine particles not removed ia the primary classification. That is, these particles are swept back iato the feed and given another chance to exit with the fine particles. Such an arrangement iacreases the overall sharpness iadex and reduces the overall apparent bypass. Another variation is to reenter the air from the sohd/gas separation of the coarse stream. [Pg.441]

The primary classification that is employed throughout this book is algebraic versus differential equation models. Namely, the mathematical model is comprised of a set of algebraic equations or by a set of ordinary (ODE) or partial differential equations (PDE). The majority of mathematical models for physical or engineered systems can be classified in one of these two categories. [Pg.7]

The intermediate octahedral sheet is normally made up of cations of charge 2 or 3 (Mg, Al, Fe, Fe, or, more rarely, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn), but in some cases cations of charge 1 (Li) and 4 (Ti) are also found. In the infinite octahedral sheet, formed by the sharing of six corners of each octahedron, there may be full occupancy of all octahedral sites ( trioctahedral micas ) alternatively, one site out of three may be vacant ( dioctahedral micas ). Nevertheless, the primary classification of micas is based on the net charge of the mixed 2 1 layer. In common micas this charge is close to 1, whereas in brittle micas it... [Pg.322]

The primary classification of substances made by the alchemists was expressed by saying these substances are rich in the principle sulphur, those contain much of the principle mercury, and this class is marked by the preponderance of the principle salt. The secondary classification of the alchemists was expressed by saying this class is characterised by dryness, that by moisture, another by coldness, and a fourth by hotness the dry substances contain much of the element Earth, the moist substances are rich in the element Water, in the cold substances the element Air preponderates, and the hot substances contain more of the element than of the other elements. [Pg.26]

The development of the relatively youthful class of polymetallic complexes has depended on the advent of routine X-ray structure determination, and consequently the bulk of the information and understanding at present involves geometrical structure. This metrical bias, reinforced by the intriguing unpredictability of many aggregate structures, determines the content and organization of this chapter. The primary classification of compounds is structural, according to increasing numbers of metal atoms. [Pg.138]

Since there are two primary neurotransmitters involved in autonomic discharge, there are two primary classifications of postsynaptic receptors. Cholinergic receptors are located at acetylcholine synapses, and adrenergic receptors are located at norepinephrine synapses. As indicated in Figure 18-2, each type of receptor has several subclassifications. The location and functional significance of these classifications and subclassifications are presented here. [Pg.258]

Attacks against man have been made using a variety of diseases. In a recent Congressional report (5) five classifications were considered to represent primary classifications from which BW agents would be likely to be drawn. [Pg.48]

For metals, the primary factors affecting immobilization are pH control, chemical speciation, and redox potential control. For organics, immobilization of constituents can be broken down into two primary classifications (1) reactions that destroy or alter organic compounds and (2) physical processes such as adsorption and encapsulation (Conner and Hoeffner 1998b). [Pg.202]

The primary classification of algae is based on cellular properties the nature of the photosynthetic pigments, the chemical composition of the cell wall, nature of reserve materials and the nature and arrangement of the flagella. In terms of these characters, the major groups of algae are arranged in Table 4.1. [Pg.363]

These are examples of ambiguities in what may be termed secondary classification, which is not as unequivocal as primary classification, or the sequential ordering of the elements. In classical chemical terms, secondary classification corresponds to the chemical similarities between the various elements in a group. Meanwhile, in modern terms, secondary classification is explained by recourse to the concept of electronic configurations. Regardless of whether one takes a classical qualitative chemical approach or a more physical approach based on electronic configurations, secondary classification of this type is more tenuous than primary... [Pg.21]

Although PCBs no longer are being produced for electrical products in the U.S., the EPA estimates that thousands of PCB transformers and millions of PCB small capacitors may stiU be in use or in storage. The threat of widespread contamination from PCB fire-related incidents is one reason behind the EPA s efforts to reduce the number of PCB products in the environment. The users of high-power equipment are affected by the regulations primarily because of the widespread use of PCB transformers and capacitors in old equipment. Table 22.3 Hsts the primary classifications of PCB devices. [Pg.2331]
