Prescription effective

The total effective Hamiltonian H, in the presence of a vector potential for an A + B2 system is defined in Section II.B and the coupled first-order Hamilton equations of motion for all the coordinates are derived from the new effective Hamiltonian by the usual prescription [74], that is. [Pg.56]

The pharmaceutical industry has developed and studied a number of anabolic steroids for use in vet erinary medicine and in rehabilitation from injuries that are accompanied by deterioration of muscles The ideal agent would be one that possessed the an abolic properties of testosterone without its andro genic (masculinizing) effects Methandrostenolone (Dianabol) and stanozolol are among the many syn thetic anabolic steroids that require a prescription... [Pg.1099]

Loperamide is similar ia action and use to diphenoxylate however, it does not need to be formulated with atropiae and is available by prescription and OTC. It is reported to have fewer central nervous system side effects than diphenoxylate. [Pg.203]

Another distinct class of dmgs are those requiring a prescription or a written order from a physician or health professional. Congress authorized PDA to determine whether a dmg should be a prescription dmg. Typically prescription dmgs are those that (/) have habit-forming characteristics (2) requke a physician s supervision, because of toxic or other harmful effects, methods of use, or coUateral measures necessary for use or (J) are limited to prescription use under an NDA. [Pg.84]

Chlorhexidine is the most poteat oral antimicrobial agent available. It has side effects and is sold only with a prescription. It is active deflvered from a riase, but a compatible toothpaste vehicle for chlorhexidine has yet to be developed. [Pg.503]

The importance of the penicillins as a class of heterocyclic compounds derives primarily from their effectiveness in the treatment of bacterial infections in mammals (especially humans). It has been estimated that, in 1980, the worldwide production of antibiotics was 25 000 tons and, of this, approximately 17 000 tons were penicillins (81MI51103). The Food and Drug Administration has estimated that, in 1979 in the U.S.A., 30.1 x 10 prescriptions of penicillin V and 44.3 x 10 prescriptions of ampicillin/amoxicillin were dispensed. This level of usage indicates that, compared to other methods of dealing with bacterial infection, the cost-benefit properties of penicillin therapy are particularly favorable. Stated differently, penicillin treatment leads to the elimination of the pathogen in a relatively high percentage of cases of bacterial infection at a relatively low cost to the patient in terms of toxic reactions and financial resources. [Pg.336]

The holistic thermodynamic approach based on material (charge, concentration and electron) balances is a firm and valuable tool for a choice of the best a priori conditions of chemical analyses performed in electrolytic systems. Such an approach has been already presented in a series of papers issued in recent years, see [1-4] and references cited therein. In this communication, the approach will be exemplified with electrolytic systems, with special emphasis put on the complex systems where all particular types (acid-base, redox, complexation and precipitation) of chemical equilibria occur in parallel and/or sequentially. All attainable physicochemical knowledge can be involved in calculations and none simplifying assumptions are needed. All analytical prescriptions can be followed. The approach enables all possible (from thermodynamic viewpoint) reactions to be included and all effects resulting from activation barrier(s) and incomplete set of equilibrium data presumed can be tested. The problems involved are presented on some examples of analytical systems considered lately, concerning potentiometric titrations in complex titrand + titrant systems. All calculations were done with use of iterative computer programs MATLAB and DELPHI. [Pg.28]

These lists tell us something about the nature of quality records, especially by what is not included. Absent from the lists are policies, procedures, instructions, plans, specifications, and any other prescriptive documents. The records all have one thing in common they describe the results of some activity - the results of inspections, tests, reviews, audits, assessments, calculations, etc. However, these lists are dominated by records relating to product quality rather than to the operations of the quality system. In addition to audit records, the following records may need to be maintained to demonstrate the effectiveness of the quality system ... [Pg.494]

This expression has a formal character and has to be complemented with a prescription for its evaluation. A priori, we can vary the values of the fields independently at each point in space and then we deal with uncountably many degrees of freedom in the system, in contrast with the usual statistical thermodynamics as seen above. Another difference with the standard statistical mechanics is that the effective Hamiltonian has to be created from the basic phenomena that we want to investigate. However, a description in terms of fields seems quite natural since the average of fields gives us the actual distributions of particles at the interface, which are precisely the quantities that we want to calculate. In a field-theoretical approach we are closer to the problem under consideration than in the standard approach and then we may expect that a simple Hamiltonian is sufficient to retain the main features of the charged interface. A priori, we have no insurance that it... [Pg.806]

The glutarimide best known to the lay public, thalidomide (40), owes its reputation not to efficacy, but to the wholly unanticipated and tragic teratogenic effects elicited by this compound. It might be noted that the very efficacy and lack of the usual barbiturate side effects shown by this drug led to its prescription as a hypnotic for expectant mothers. Condensation of the phthalimide of glutamic acid (39) with ammonia at elevated... [Pg.257]

Crl, Grr, A r and A r are the potential parameters of the constituents A and B of the alloy, S r r r, is the structure matrix in the most localized representation, tir are local site-occupation variables which randomly takes value 1 or 0 according to whether the site is occupied by an atom of type A or not, with probabilities proportional to the concentrations of the constituents. According to the prescription of the augmented space formalism, the effective non-random Hamiltonian H in augmented space is then... [Pg.65]

This prescription transforms the effective Hamiltonian to a tridiagonal form and thus leads directly to a continued fraction representation for the configuration averaged Green function matrix element = [G i]at,. This algorithm is usually continued... [Pg.66]

Ibuprofen is the most thoroughly researched 2-ary lpropionic acid. It is a relatively weak, non-selective inhibitor of COX. In epidemiological studies, ibuprofen compared to all other conventional NSAIDs, has the lowest relative risk of causing severe gastrointestinal side effects. Because of this, ibuprofen is the most frequently used OTC ( over the counter , sale available without prescription) analgesic. Ibuprofen is highly bound to plasma proteins and has a relatively short elimination half-life ( 2 h). It is mainly glucuronidated to inactive metabolites that are eliminated via the kidney. [Pg.875]

Prescription drugs are drugs that the federal government has designated to be potentially harmful unless their use is supervised by a licensed health care provider, such as a nurse practitioner, physician, or dentist. Although these drugs have been tested for safety and therapeutic effect, prescription drugs may cause different reactions in some individuals. [Pg.3]

Table 1-3 compares the partial charges calculated using Equation 1-1, including the effect of double-bond character, and according to the prescription of Bratsch for the molecules discussed earlier as well as for NH3 and H20, for which double bonding is not possible. It is seen that the partial charges agree better when double-bond character is taken into account in... [Pg.338]

Over-the-Counter Drug Review begun to enhance the safety, effectiveness and appropriate labelling of drugs sold without prescription. [Pg.33]

The approval of buprenorphine for the office-based treatment of opioid dependence represents a major departure from the earlier methadone clinic system. Physicians with addiction specialist credentials or those who have completed 8 hours of approved training can become qualified to treat up to 30 patients in their private offices. Stable patients may be given prescriptions for up to a month of medication. The combination buprenorphine/naloxone tablet is expected to have minimal risk for diversion. When taken subhnguaUy, as prescribed, naloxone has minimal biologic activity and does not interfere with the buprenorphine dose. However, if an attempt is made to inject the drug, the addict will experience the full antagonist effect of the naloxone. [Pg.83]

Trihexyphenidyl (Artane) and benztropine (Cogentin) are prescription drugs used in the treatment both of Parkinson s disease and the extrapyramidal side effects produced by neuroleptic medication. They are occasionally abused for their mind-altering properties, which occur at toxic doses (Perry et al. 1978). Abusers often try to obtain these drugs by false representation of extrapyramidal symptoms, which are claimed to result from the use of phenothi-azines or other neuroleptics (Rubinstein 1978). [Pg.235]
