Preparation and Protection

A similar methodology is apparent in the masking of carboxylic acids as [Pg.83]

The protection of carboxylic acids as their phenacyl esters has been described regeneration is effected with great facility at room temperature by zinc in glacial or dilute aqueous acetic acid. Of notable applicability is the formation of y-hydroxyesters from y-lactones, an otherwise indirect transformation an example is the obtention of the ester (13) from the sodium salt of santonin (12). This protection can be extended to phenols. [Pg.84]

Although this route seems quite elegant there are some disadvantages. From foe point of economic feasibility, it would be more attractive to start with a substrate that is a precursor of the optically pure a-disubstituted amino add. In foe method described, first foe D,L-amino add has to be prepared and protected. After foe enzymatic step deprotection is necessary to obtain foe D-amino add and the total process is circuitous. Furthermore, foe unwanted isomer cannot be racemised. [Pg.284]

The SEXAFS teehnique is a partieular surface sensitive detection mode applied to an EXAFS measurement, performed in a particular environment, the Ultra High Vacuum, which is needed in order to prepare and protect the atomic-scale eleanliness of surface and interface systems for the whole time length of the experiment. As such the technique borrows equipment and procedures from the surface science spectroscopies, and exploitation procedures of the synchrotron radiation source from the conventional, non vacuum, EXAFS method. The studies described below have been performed at the Laboratoire pour T Utilisation du Rayonnement Electro-magnetique (LURE) exploiting synehrotron radiation from the storage ring DCI... [Pg.99]

Most solid-phase strategies for the preparation and protection of guanidines were developed to enable the use of arginine in solid-phase peptide synthesis. In recent years, however, the biological activity of many guanidines has spurred a quest for more versatile solid-phase syntheses of this class of compound. [Pg.371]

To overcome these medium- to long term substrate degradation issues, the surface of the structured material has to be properly prepared and protected during the phase of assembly and catalyst coating. This feature is so important that, as mentioned before, almost no relevant and detailed long-term studies have been reported yet on the corrosion effects on stainless-steel microstructured platelets. [Pg.1082]

Preparation and Protection.—An ingenious, high-yield method has been published for the chain-lengthening of carboxylic acids by three carbon atoms, via the alkylation of oxazol-5-one anions. The method owes its success to the electrophilic C-2 atom in the oxazolone (8), in effect a masked carboxyl carbon, becoming nucleophilic on transition to the anion (9). Acids are readily converted into oxazol-5-ones by treatment of the corresponding acid chloride with d/-valine, followed by cyclization with acetic anhydride, as shown in Scheme 7. Reaction of the oxazolone with acrylonitrile in the presence of triethylamine gives the alkylated product (10), which can be readily cleaved to a y-ketonitrile or a y-ketoacid. [Pg.83]

Of the sesquioxides perhaps least is known about Ce203. Unless it is completely stoichiometric (and A-form) it can be pyrophoric hence preparation and protection from oxygen during study requires serious attention. Sata and Yoshimura (1968a, b) have prepared this material and have studied its chemical and physical properties including its melting point, thermal expansion, and electrical and magnetic properties. [Pg.349]

Gestodene has been prepared in several ways (85). The route that provides the highest yield is shown in Eigure 8. Microbial oxidation of (55) with Penicillium raistrickii results in the 15-alcohol (56). Protection of the alcohol as the acetate (57) and protection of the ketone as a dienolether provides (58). In a one-pot procedure (58) is treated with lithium acetyUde and subjected to a hydrolytic work-up to provide gestodene (54) (86). [Pg.214]

Application Methods and Surface Preparation. Eor good durabiHty and performance, proper surface preparation and correct appHcation of house paints are as important as the formulation of high quaHty paint. Proper surface preparation prior to painting involves several considerations. Eor new constmction, proper installation and protection of the substrate material are necessary. Eor previously painted surfaces, preparation involves mostly cleaning and removing any existing paint that is unstable. Once surface preparation is complete, the appHcation process can begin. [Pg.545]

Since this original synthesis, a great number of improvements (191—201) have been made in the stereoselective preparation and derivatization of the CO-chain precursor, in cuprate reagent composition and preparation, in protecting group utilization, and in the preparation and resolution of hydroxycyclopentenones. Illustration of some of the many improvements are seen in a synthesis (202) of enisoprost, a PGE analogue. The improvements consist of a much more efficient route to the enone as well as modifications in the cuprate reactions. Preparation of the racemic enone is as follows ... [Pg.161]

Pharmaceutical Applications. Sucrose has a long history in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. It imparts body to symps and medicinal hquids and masks unpleasant tastes. Sucrose also functions as a diluent to control dmg concentrations in medicines, as an ingredient binder for tablets, and to impart chewiness to the latter. Sustained-release medications and protective tablet glazes are prepared using sucrose (41). Sucrose-based sugar pastes are used to promote wound healing (58). [Pg.6]

Amino Acids. Chloroformates play a most important role for the protection of the amino group of amino acids (qv) during peptide synthesis (32). The protective carbamate formed by the reaction of benzyl chloroformate and amino acid (33) can be cleaved by hydrogenolysis to free the amine after the carboxyl group has reacted further. The selectivity of the amino groups toward chloroformates results in amino-protected amino acids with the other reactive groups unprotected (34,35). Methods for the preparation of protected amino acids on an industrial scale have been developed (36,37). A wide variety of chloroformates have been used that give various carbamates that are stable or cleaved under different conditions. [Pg.39]

Low viscosity cellulose acetate is used in lacquers and protective coatings for paper, metal, glass, and other substrates and as an adhesive for cellulose photographic film because of its quick bonding rate and excellent bond peel strength (135) (see Coatings). Heat-sensitive adhesives for textiles have also been prepared from cellulose acetate (136). Extmded cellulose acetate film makes an excellent base for transparent pressure-sensitive tape (137) (see Adhesives). [Pg.259]
