Penicillium raistrickii

Gestodene has been prepared in several ways (85). The route that provides the highest yield is shown in Eigure 8. Microbial oxidation of (55) with Penicillium raistrickii results in the 15-alcohol (56). Protection of the alcohol as the acetate (57) and protection of the ketone as a dienolether provides (58). In a one-pot procedure (58) is treated with lithium acetyUde and subjected to a hydrolytic work-up to provide gestodene (54) (86). 

Two further />-terphenyls related to candidusins, namely 3 -demethoxy-6 -desmethyl-5 -methoxycandidusin B (75) and 6 -desmethylcandidusin B (76) were more recently obtained from sclerotia of Penicillium raistrickii together with 14 and other metabolites, among them griseofulvin (see Section 2.3) [44],... 

Three methods were used to increase taxoid titers in fungi the addition of various media amendments to induce or up-promote yields, random spore selection and directed spore selection. Most of these efforts were initiated with studies of T. andreanae and continued with Penicillium raistrickii isolate H10BA2, which is a more robust fungus as well as a true spore producer.
