Prefabricated sections

The work was considered normal maintenance and presented no special hazards. Employees carried a prefabricated section of replacement piping to the sphere containing hundreds of tons of a flashing flammable liquid. The boiling point of this material was 8° F (—13° C) and it was stored under several atmospheres of pressure. [6]... [Pg.97]

This large market includes residential housing and commercial building, in addition to roads, bridges, and other elements of the infrastructure. The largest volume of adhesives presently used is for nonstructural applications however, the use of structural adhesives is expected to increase in the future. While some end uses will involve primary structural bonds, most will be semi-structural, in which the adhesive will be used in combination with a mechanical fastener. The use of adhesives is also expected to increase as the trend towards the manufacture of prefabricated sections continues. Laminated beams and trusses are one established use for structural adhesives, typically phenolic, but there is now interest in urethanes for this purpose. Epoxies are also widely used, mostly for the bonding and repair of concrete. [Pg.19]

Exhibit 13-51 highlights a number of features for a lesigner to consider. A prefabricated section of pipe is nbedded into the concrete wall. A Vz in/015-Aick ilate is welded to the secondary line to aa as a water eal. A 1-in drain line is provided to remove any leaked laterial from the containment line. The exterior wall f the sewer box is covered with a polyethylene mem- rane liner that acts as a condary containment barier. [Pg.343]

Adhesives are also used in the manufacturing of prefabricated sections or assemblies. Examples include complete wall sections with the sheathing bonded to wood frames roof sections with sheathing bonded to j oists and rafters to provide T-beam action and box beams and other types of composite beams for joists or rafters. ] Phenolic adhesives are used in the fabrication of laminated beams and trusses. Epoxies are also widely used for bonding and the repair of concrete. ]... [Pg.545]

Mine Clearing Equipment. Devices used to actuate land mines without damage to personnel or equipment. Expl devices are typified by a group of linear shaped prefabricated structural sections, filled with composition expls, with a nose section and a towing and pushing attachment, designed for assembly into a device to be propelled by any standard tank. [Pg.151]

Prefabricated units, other than regularly manufactured buttwelding fittings, that employ plate and longitudinal seams, as contrasted with pipe that has been produced and tested under one of the specifications listed in this Part, shall be designed, constructed, and tested under requirements of the ASME BPV Code Section VIII, Division 1. These requirements are not intended to apply to such partial assemblies as split rings or collars, or to other field-welded details. [Pg.135]

Prefabricated emits produced under this section of the Code shall withstand a pressure test without failure, leakage, distress, or distortion other than elastic distortion at a pressure equal to the test pressure of the system in which they are installed, either before installation or during the system test. When such units are to be installed in existing systems, they shall be pressure tested before installation, unless the complete system is pressure tested after installation. [Pg.135]

The oil tube/atomizer section was removed from the dual fuel burner and an oxy/fuel burner was inserted in its place. The burner retrofit package including the natural gas and oxygen flow control trains were prefabricated to prevent furnace downtime. The oxy/fuel flow controls and safety switches were interlocked to the conventional air/fuel controls, thus creating a hybrid air-oxy/fuel combustion system. [Pg.190]

As the submarine was too fragile to move, the only practical conservation method was to wash the vessel in situ. A tank was constructed from glass fibre - reinforced polyester resin laminate. The structure was prefabricated in sections away from the museum and assembled on site with no disturbance to... [Pg.147]

In a similar approach, it is not the monomer, but a solution of the prefabricated polymer (polyacrylonibile in this case) in DMF that is being used. Herein the SWNTs are very finely dispersed. The product then also contains nano tubes aligned in the fiber s longitudinal direction. Another procedure resembles the method of producing carbon fibers from PAN (Section 1.2.3). Here the composite fibers are carbonized to yield a material of nanotube-reinforced carbon fibers. At a nanotube portion of as little as 3%, it already exhibits markedly improved mechanical properties. [Pg.276]

Application of Pipe Insulation. Prefabricated insulation is applied to a pipe with joints tightly butted and pointed up. Each section of insulation is wired to the pipe with not less than three loops of 16-gauge annealed iron wire on pipe up to and including 6 in. and with not less... [Pg.385]

The coupling reactions discussed so far in this Section involve a m-terphenyl base and a prefabricated vault, and revealed a propensity for the formation of self-filled over vaulted conformers. The alternate synthetic strategy, to attach a... [Pg.173]

The immobilised molecule is either an oligonucleotide or a strand of cDNA (section 6.2.5). Oligonucleotides consist typically of between 25 and 70 nucleotides. These can either be prefabricated and spotted onto the array surface or directly synthesised on the glass surface, as outlined for the Affymetrix GeneChipT. cDNA is obtained from isolated RNA by reverse transcription (section 6.2.5). After PCR amplification, cDNA strands of between 500 and 5000 bases are usually immobilised on the array substrate. [Pg.136]

Another approach is to cut the existing column shell into two pieces (top and bottom sections), and then weld the prefabricated new middle section in, which increases the total number of trays. By carrying out this approach, energy can be reduced not only from the effect of the DWC but also the effect of an increase in the number of trays. Note that the heat losses from the shell and heat transfer across the dividing wall can be ignored in most cases. [Pg.263]

Eibrous prefabricated scaffolds can be prepared by electrospinning, which is explained in Section 3.10. [Pg.88]

See Figure 7.33 and Section 7.13. The electrode wire is a trivial but very important part of the electrode. There are many things to consider the best cable track, no wire drag on the electrode, and minimal weight of the electrode connector. Very flexible wire, perhaps shielded The best is to have no connector at the electrode side, a wire with prefabricated direct entry into the electrode. [Pg.236]

Some plants use combinations of aluminum and copper conductor. Aluminum may be used for the main bus or large sections and copper for electrolyzer connections, where it is more important to keep the components small. Prefabricated transition pieces should be used to minimize contact resistances. In these pieces, the two metals can be joined by explosion bonding. [Pg.732]
