Linear shape

In this element the velocity and pressure fields are approximated using biquadratic and bi-linear shape functions, respectively, this corresponds to a total of 22 degrees of freedom consisting of 18 nodal velocity components (corner, mid-side and centre nodes) and four nodal pressures (corner nodes). [Pg.28]

Depending on the type of elements used appropriate interpolation functions are used to obtain the elemental discretizations of the unknown variables. In the present derivation a mixed formulation consisting of nine-node bi-quadratic shape functions for velocity and the corresponding bi-linear interpolation for the pressure is adopted. To approximate stres.ses a 3 x 3 subdivision of the velocity-pressure element is considered and within these sub-elements the stresses are interpolated using bi-linear shape functions. This arrangement is shown in Edgure 3.1. [Pg.83]

Mine Clearing Equipment. Devices used to actuate land mines without damage to personnel or equipment. Expl devices are typified by a group of linear shaped prefabricated structural sections, filled with composition expls, with a nose section and a towing and pushing attachment, designed for assembly into a device to be propelled by any standard tank. [Pg.151]

It is designed to breach a path thru a mine field upon the deton, by fire from the pushing tank s machine guns, of the linear shaped charges (Ref 1). Earlier designs were termed snake, demolition (Ref 3)... [Pg.151]

A molecule with only two atoms attached to the central atom is BeCl2. The Lewis structure is CI — Be — CE, and there are no lone pairs on the central atom. To be as far apart as possible, the two bonding pairs lie on opposite sides of the Be atom, and so the electron arrangement is linear. Because a Cl atom is attached by each bonding pair, the VSEPR model predicts a linear shape for the BeCL molecule, with a bond angle of 180° (4). That shape is confirmed by experiment. [Pg.221]

As for stationary values of the signal, as the experiment indicates the dependence of on concentration of CO for different adsorbents based on Sn02 has a linear shape with increase in inclination with growing temperature over the temperature interval 100 - 400°C, concentration of CO being lower than 150 pmm. In high concentration domain... [Pg.78]

The following Lewis structure is plausible. O = C = O This is a molecule of type AX2 CO2 has a linear electron-shape geometry and a linear shape. [Pg.225]

This determination of the molecular geometry of carbon dioxide and water also accounts for the fact that carbon dioxide does not possess a dipole and water has one, even though both are composed of polar covalent bonds. Carbon dioxide, because of its linear shape, has partial negative charges at both ends and a partial charge in the middle. To possess a dipole, one end of the molecule must have a positive charge and the other a negative end. Water, because of its bent shape, satisfies this requirement. Carbon dioxide does not. [Pg.154]

The curve can be any non-linear shape to demonstrate the effect. The curve helps to explain the importance and limitations of calibration. Points A and B represent a calibration range of input values between which linearity is likely. The curve demonstrates how linearity cannot be assured outside this range. The DINAMAP monitor behaves in a similar way. It tends to overestimate at low blood pressure (BP) and underestimate at high BP while retaining accuracy between the calibration limits. [Pg.17]

Consider, for example, BeF2, which is a symmetrical, linear molecule. Each Be—F bond is polar (because fluorine has a greater electronegativity than beryllium). Due to the linear shape of this molecule, however, the polarities of the two bonds are directly opposite each other. The two bonding polarities exactly counteract each other, so that BeF2 is a non-polar molecule. The shape of a molecule, combined with the polarity of its individual bonds, therefore, determine polarity. [Pg.187]

Pores with a very regular, linear shape can be produced by the track-etch method (Quinn et al. 1972). Here a thin layer of a material is bombarded with highly energetic particles from a radioactive source. The track left behind in the material is much more sensitive to an etchant in the direction of the track axis than perpendicular to it. So etching the material results in straight pores of uniform shape and size with pore diameters ranging between 6 nm and 1200 nm. To avoid overlap of pores only 2-5% of the surface can be occupied by the pores. This process has been applied on polymers (e.g. Nuclepore membranes) and on some inorganic systems like mica. Membranes so obtained are attractive as model systems for fundamental studies. [Pg.18]

The linear shape of the transverse NMRD profiles is not altered by changes in pH, but unlike the ferritin solutions, the values of the slope and intercept of the linear regression depend on pH. The intercept decreases when pH increases, while the slope initially decreases towards a minimum which is reached at pH 7.5, and then increases (4< ). [Pg.265]

Second, we tried the immobilization of DNA molecules as a potential target material for the immobilization of biological macromolecules. An aqueous solution of 1 mg/mL A.-DNA was spotted onto the surface of an azopolymer and covered with a cover glass, where the A.-DNA was stained with a fluorophore (YOYO-1 iodide, Molecular Probes Inc., Eugene, OR) in advance and the surface was then irradiated with the linearly shaped laser beam for 5 min, as shown in Fig. 3b. The surface was washed for 5 min in an aqueous solution and was then observed using... [Pg.261]
