Power strips

Multiple mantles can be controlled through one voltage regulator using a power strip. [Pg.469]

The amount of time required is based on the fact that the saponification will require a set amount of time, followed by a titration. The titration should only take 2 to 3 min once the analyst has become comfortable with the method. The primary restriction to doing a lot of samples is the amount of equipment available for the saponification step. Generally, using the heating mantles and a power strip, six setups can be maintained with ease. In a water bath, the number is controlled by the size of the bath, but again 6 to 8 should be possible. [Pg.477]

The electrical demands of a darkroom are not great. One outlet with a four-plug adapter or a good power strip with multiple outlets is often sufficient for a closet or temporary darkroom. [Pg.4]

Powerful stripping agent for nylon and wool goods. Zinc formaldehyde sulfoxylate. [Pg.330]

Make sure the heating mantle is plugged into the transformer and that both variable transformers (B and C) are plugged into the power strip. [Pg.526]

Electrical cords and electrical power strips can pose hazards if they are used in inappropriate places. Figure 5.3.S.2 shows a power strip lying on its side in a hood. What possible incidents could result from this situation What if a flammable liquid were being used in the hood What if a solution spilled in the hood Figure 5.3.5.3 shows a commonly encountered situation where multiple power strips are plugged into a circuit and multiple cords are plugged into those power strips. This could result in a circuit overload or overheating in the cords. [Pg.306]

Mount a vertical AC strip inside each rack to power the equipment. Insulate the power strip from the rack using porcelain standoffs or use a strip with an insulated (plastic) housing. Such a device is shown in Fig. 10.271. Power equipment from the strip using standard three-prong grounding AC plugs. Do not... [Pg.1234]

A useful avalanche diode that works in either direction is the "varistor," sometimes called the "metal oxide varistor," or "MOV." It is not just a single crystal device as the previously described semiconductors are, but instead it is polycrystalline ceramic material, usually zinc oxide, with many small PN junctions at the grain boundaries. It is quite inexpensive and is very rugged, so it can be found as an important part inside most "surge protector power strips" for connecting multiple computer modems, printers, etc., to protect them against inductive kicks and even most "spikes" ("transients") from lightning. ... [Pg.162]

There are no specific regulations governing power strips however, OSHA does address this issue in a November 18, 2002 Letter of Interpretation which says ... [Pg.102]

OSHA s standard at 1910.303(b)(2), Installation and Use, requires that Listed or labeled equipment shall be Installed and used in accordance with any instructions included In the listing or labeling. Manufacturers and nationally recognized testing laboratories determine the proper uses for power strips. For example, the UL Directory contains instructions that require UL-listed RPTs to be directly connected to a permanently Installed branch circuit receptacle they are not to be series-connected to other RPTs or connected to extension cords. UL also specifies that RPTs are not intended for use at construction sites and similar locations. [Pg.102]

Using one surge protector/power strip to power another. [Pg.104]

Extension cords and multiple outlet electrical power strips can be dangerous. [Pg.293]

Extension cords should be used for temporary service only. Arrange for additional permanent electrical service, if necessary. Keep all cords out of traffic paths. Unsecured multiple outlet power strips with surge protection (for VDTs or PCs) should be secured to a wall, desk, or table. Unplug coffee makers and hot plates when not in use. [Pg.113]
