Demethanizer Overhead Expander and Multifeed Fractionation. Incorporation of an expander into the conventional high pressure demethanizer system eliminates bottlenecks in the refrigeration system, the demethanizer condenser, and charge gas compressor. It reduces the cost by lowering the refrigeration power. Multiple feed deethanization and ethylene fractionation debottlenecks the deethanizer, ethylene fractionator, and the refrigeration systems, thereby reducing power consumption. [Pg.442]

Order of Operations the order in which operations must be performed. An easy way to remember the Order of Operations is to use the mnemonic PEMDAS, where each letter stands for an operation Parentheses Always calculate the values inside the parentheses first Exponents Second, calculate exponents (or powers) Multiplication/Division Third, perform any multipHcations or divisions in order from left to right Addition/Subtraction Last, perform any additions or subtractions in order from left to right. [Pg.232]

The all-glass reactor consisted of two detachable parts. The upper part was equipped widi four necks for fitting the two inlet tubes, a thermometer, and a powerful multiple-blade stirrer. The lower part of the reactor was immersed in a constant temperature bath, equipped with both heaters and cooling coils. The temperature bath was controlled by a J-tube type thermostat sensitive to 0.1° C. [Pg.218]

The cost of power required to run a refrigeration system can be estimated approximately as a multiple of the power required for an ideal system. Thus, for an ideal system,... [Pg.414]

The reactivity of size-selected transition-metal cluster ions has been studied witli various types of mass spectrometric teclmiques [1 ]. Fourier-transfonn ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) is a particularly powerful teclmique in which a cluster ion can be stored and cooled before experimentation. Thus, multiple reaction steps can be followed in FT-ICR, in addition to its high sensitivity and mass resolution. Many chemical reaction studies of transition-metal clusters witli simple reactants and hydrocarbons have been carried out using FT-ICR [49, 58]. [Pg.2394]

Variational methods - theoretically the variational approach offers the most powerful procedure for the generation of a computational grid subject to a multiplicity of constraints such as smoothness, uniformity, adaptivity, etc. which cannot be achieved using the simpler algebraic or differential techniques. However, the development of practical variational mesh generation techniques is complicated and a universally applicable procedure is not yet available. [Pg.195]

Most of the previous discussion has concerned addition. Subtraction in binary is very similar, but multiplication is awkward (try it ). For this reason it is quicker for a computer to multiply by carrying out a series of additions. Multiplying 3x5 becomes adding 5 -(- 5 -(- 5. Because each addition is very fast, the time taken for even a large multiplication is very little and still appears instantaneous to us. Only with very large computations does this speed become obvious enough to merit special computers, more powerful than the ones being considered here for use in mass spectrometry. Finally, division is very similar to multiplication, except that a series of subtractions is carried out instead of additions. [Pg.307]

Variable Air Flow Fans. Variable air flow fans are needed ia the process iadustry for steam or vapor condensing or other temperature critical duties. These also produce significant power saviags. Variable air flow is accompHshed by (/) variable speed motors (most commonly variable frequency drives (VFDs) (2) variable pitch fan hubs (J) two-speed motors (4) selectively turning off fans ia multiple fan iastaHations or (5) variable exit louvers or dampers. Of these methods, VFDs and variable pitch fans are the most efficient. Variable louvers, which throttle the airflow, are the least efficient. The various means of controlling air flow are summarized ia Table 3. [Pg.111]

The term channel induction furnace is appHed to those in which the energy for the process is produced in a channel of molten metal that forms the secondary circuit of an iron core transformer. The primary circuit consists of a copper cod which also encircles the core. This arrangement is quite similar to that used in a utdity transformer. Metal is heated within the loop by the passage of electric current and circulates to the hearth above to overcome the thermal losses of the furnace and provide power to melt additional metal as it is added. Figure 9 illustrates the simplest configuration of a single-channel induction melting furnace. Multiple inductors are also used for appHcations where additional power is required or increased rehabdity is necessary for continuous operation (11). [Pg.130]

Wetox uses a single-reactor vessel that is baffled to simulate multiple stages. The design allows for higher destmction efficiency at lower power input and reduced temperature. Its commercial use has been limited to one faciHty in Canada for treatment of a complex industrial waste stream. Kenox Corp. (North York, Ontario, Canada) has developed a wet oxidation reactor design (28). The system operates at 4.1—4.7 MPa (600 to 680 psi) with air, using a static mixer to achieve good dispersion of Hquid and air bubbles. [Pg.502]

A DBMS performs what is called transaction management. This process allows multiple users to access and store data in the database without cormption. The abiUty to do this is particularly important when data are being written to the DBMS, because power intermptions or hardware failure can cause database transactions to be incompletely processed. Transaction managers use the "all or nothing" principle all the data is written to the DBMS, ie, the transaction is completed, or none of it is written. [Pg.520]
