In large power plants, precoat filters are traditionally used only when freshwater condenser cooling is employed because brine or seawater condenser leaks would quickly overwhelm the limited ion-exchange capacity available. They also are commonly used for continuous filtering of suspended corrosion products under variable power load conditions and when frequent boiler startups are necessary. 

Renewable energy is about 13% of the world s energy while fossil fuels make up 80% and nuclear power 7%. Wind power has become a major part of power generation in Europe, with 20 to 40% of power loads in parts of Germany, Denmark, and Spain.

Temperatures much above 100° C can best be attained by heating the electrode alone by means of supplemental ac currents. Owing to the skin effect, such currents (at sufficiently high frequencies) travel along the metal surface and hence make the necessary power load for heating relatively small (Velev, 1990). 

This involved selection of a 3.3-mw unit, and to provide backup, two sets were designed. Drilling power loads were not considered because they were being completely divorced from production facilities design. The drilling power sets were 4 x l-mw units with a 300-kw essential supply gener-nor. 

At the completion of drilling, all former power-generation turbines dedicated to drilling would be turned over to production as backup/standby or available for future increments of production/reservoir support power loads. 

Power generation vs. direct drive. Power generation, a primary utility, was discussed in Part 1 in regard to type of configuration to save space once a power load is determined. To determine the peak power loads, decisions must be made early on prime movers for the main users of energy crude-shipping pumps, gas compression, and water-injection pumps.

This pump uses a closed impeller, mechanical seals, and is constructed of stainless steel 304L. The small power load of approximately 3.5 kW is supplied by an electric motor drive employing a horizontal shaft. The design casing pressure is sufficient to give a 30% safety factor above the total head required. Mechanical seals are preferred to a packed box arrangement due to their superior ability to contain the corrosive and toxic acid liquor.
