There are two possibilities for practical implementation. If the polymers with the heterocyclic groups are to be isolated in powder form, the polycyclocondensation can be achieved in the same reaction mixture, i.e., in solution. However, if the polymer is to be isolated in the form of fibers, foils, coatings, or adhesives, the following procedure is appropriate The soluble, still reactive polymers of the first reaction step are poured out, e.g., as a film, or spun into a fiber. Then the solvent is evaporated and afterwards the polycyclocondensation is carried out by heating the finished article in the solid state. [Pg.313]

Eemarks on the Preparation of Useful Alloys.—In working with antimony alloys it is important to cast them at a temperature as low as possible, and to pour into cold moulds, so as to aid rapid solidification and obtain a fairly uniform noass instead of an eutectic alloy. Brass moulds must be used for casting, and must be coated on the interior with a mixture of lamp-black and oil of turpentine, or lamp-black alone, to prevent any adhesion of the alloy to the mould. Red chalk mixed to a uniform mass with water can also be used. [Pg.153]

In Fig. 3.33, comparative information is presented on the adhesive strength of polymer powder coatings formed on aluminum substrates by the electrostatic method under an external field of 2.5-3 kV/cm (the charge density in the layer was q/m 3 10 C/kg) and thermal treatment of a similar thickness poured layer of uncharged particles [52]. [Pg.219]

Chlorinated Rubber-Acrylic Resin Combinations. Physically drying acrylic resins are used for these combinations. These combinations have the same drying rates as normal chlorinated rubber paints (see Section 2.3.2). They have improved flow properties (particularly when applied by pouring techniques), improved weather resistance (chalking and yellowing), and favorable mechanical properties (adhesion and extensibility). Applications include topcoats for ship superstructures and priming coats on galvanized surfaces. [Pg.22]
