Criteria that are used in professional advancement decisions include publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional meetings. Forty-nine percent of respondents have disseminated materials beyond their own classrooms in a variety of ways. Significant numbers of those who have done so have published woric in peer-reviewed journals (32%), and almost twice as many gave oral presentations of their work at professional meetings (63%). An important component of green chemistry education is the involvement of students in the research programs of faculty members. Material was also distributed by students at professional meetings, primarily as poster presentations. [Pg.21]

In our poster presentation earlier in this conference we reported finding dodecenyl alcohol and tetradecenyl alcohol in four varieties of untreated apples at concentrations ranging from 70-130 ppb. The natural occurrence of these compounds in apples had been reported in 1976, but not quantitated (5). The irony is that they are two of the five components in an experimental lepidopteran insect sex pheromone for which residue determinations were made of all components on treated apples. This full season application included 52 g/ha and 10 g/ha of dodecenyl alcohol and tetradecenyl alcohol, respectively. These were minor constituents, the major component was 106 g/ha of E,E-8,10-dodecadien-l-ol. No increased levels of the saturated alcohols were detected in fruit from treated orchards, and none of the latter, major component, was detectable above 10 ppb, our level of sensitivity (Spittler, T. D., Leichtweis, H. C. and Kirsch, P. Manuscript in preparation). [Pg.513]

Bioavailability of Metals, Nonmetals and Xenobiotics Immobilized on Soil Components, (4) Distribution and Activity of Biomolecules in Terrestrial Systems, (5) Interactions between Soil Microbial Biomass and Organic Matter/Nutrient Transformations, and (6) Impact of Interactions among Soil Mineral Colloids, Organic Matter and Biota on Risk Assessment and Restoration of Terrestrial Ecosystems. There were 2 plenary lectures, 9 invited speakers, 36 oral presentations and 45 posters. Dr. N. Senesi from University of Bari, Italy, presented an IUPAC lecture entitled Metal-Humic... [Pg.359]
